I am running a 94 5 speed with a 250/675 plate, RE0880, and straight pipe. The performance is good, but the fuel seems to cut out at 2200 rpm.
I would like to have full fuel to 2800-3000.
I know that there are two choices, the high idle screw and the governor kit. Does the high idle screw get me there if you are not at WOT? Most of the time I would just like to hold the gear longer, but I am not at full throttle.

BertM,

You are exactly right. The high idle screw doesn't change anything until you move the throttle past the stock limit. Under moderate driving you will still have defueling at 2200.

That is why we automatic guys can't use the high idle screw trick for power. It affects shift points too much.

I would recommend you screwing the high idle screw in though. It sure is nice for those occasional full throttle blasts. If that is not enough, you can then purchase the governor spring kit.

Start with the cheap mods!

One Think Diesel's don't like is HIGH RPM. They get a real short fuse if You know what I mean. ALL those Heavy parts put a LOT of stress on stuff when You wind them up!
DENNY... ... ... .

You should be able to get the rpm range your looking for just by adjusting your stock governor springs. My 94 also started cutting back fuel around 2200. Springs are now set to cut back at 2800.

Cumminsgetme,
Thanks for the reply. What is the process for adjusting the factory governor springs. Is is merely compressing the spring on its seat, or does it involve more? Is there a link to directions?

Bert-I had my pump adjusted at a local diesel shop. They also adjusted my governor. I could probably lead you in the right direction, but wouldn't want to give any false information... . or simply stated, talk out of my a*#. I did a search concerning this subject and found that strick-9 gives a pretty good explanation in a post called "Another P7100 Technical question". I think you should be able to play with the preload tensions and accomplish what your looking for. As far as the technical details, I won't be much help right now. Surely someone far more knowledgeable than myself can comment. However, I've got a governor kit coming soon, so I should be edumacated shortly!

BertM,
When you tighten the two slotted nuts that hold the springs, make sure you "click", or tighten them the same. That's the most important thing I can think of.

Which screw is the high idle screw and how far do you turn it in any pics or diagrams would help also where is the governer spring?
