Need more whine with my cheese...

How do I get my turbo to whine louder? I have removed the silencer ring, and the snorkel. I have also replaced the factory air filter with an amsoil. Can I get it any louder yet? Maybe a different air filter? I am planning on a muffler removal ceremony soon and I am afraid after that, I wont be able to hear the turbo as well.

Take off the stock airbox and goto one of the "round" filters. When I went to the K&N 0880 it sounded like a jet engine... ... . just ask Floor It. But I also had a different turbo too (PDR HX35 12 cm) at the time.

Just leave out the silencer ring and add a Psychotty air induction system.



Then all you'll need is the cheese.

If you REALLY want to hear it, get a Psychotty. Cutting the 4" hole in your firewall takes suction of cooler air from your inlet at the base of the windshield, and also provides a path for turbo noise to get interconnected with your A/C air outlets in the cab.



Personally, I've decided I prefer the "dry" BHAF/MHAF style air filters over the K&N or other oiled filters. So you might want to try the BHAF before you go "all the way" and start cutting holes.



If you want to stay with your stock airbox, then cut about a 2" or 3" hole in the firewall at the same location as for Psychotty, and a matching hole on the inlet side of your airbox. Then connect your airbox inlet to this new air source with vacuum cleaner hose or similar. Should have a similar impact on "piping" in the noise, and will increase cool air into the box.

Nice idea, HC. I too want more turbo noise, havent deceided on the BHAF, or keeping stock airbox. Anyone out there tried that method with the stock airbox? I might give that a try before the BHAF to see how it works.

I Installed the AFE Funnel Ram/Mega-Cannon this weekend. Very pleased with the construction & design. This is by far the LOUDEST airfilter I have had. The turbo whine can be heard from 2 blocks away. The BHAF is very quiet compared to the AFE. Not even close.
