2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Need new 8' Bed, Rear Ended Fire hydrant

Last week I parked on a slight icy slope and I came out and my truck had rolled backwards and rearended a fire hydrant knocking it off completely. So much for the parking brake. Actually, I think the ice started the truck down the hill and then the parking brake didn't hold when it got momentum. The damage was to the drivers side rear bumper and rear quarter panel. I thought it might be cheaper to just find a take off bed and buy it rather than take it to a body shop. Does any one know where to find a takeoff bed?

if you have any truck upfitters in your area id try them. A few around my area sell the beds they take off to put on hauler beds, flatbeds utility beds, etc...

Dont forget to tell your local PD/FD about the hydrant!

How nice of a bed do you want? I have one that's 'worktruck' quality that would go for cheap...

I would prefer a nice bed & bumper as I try to keep it nice, but beggers can't be choosers, so if someone has one relatively dent free, I can get it repainted & linex to be like new. I did tell the local f. d. & they had it fixed within 24 hrs. I was amazed how the hydrant broke off.

if they are like the ones I work with, they are designed to shear off, instead of being rigid and wrecking the riser and water main its attached to.

I have a 8ft bed that is in almost perfect shape. Even has a line-x liner in it. It is near Great Falls MT, Let me know if your interested. I'll have another in a week or two, but it is in rough shape, definitely not worth a drive from Kansas.

If you call all the places in your area that install flatbeds, someone should have a lead. Good luck.

I've got a white one from my '97. It has a hole where the gooseneck hitch was. Otherwise its in good shape. I'm in So. Colorado.

As far as the e-brake not holding, I doubt that happened. My driveway is on a slope and new concrete (4 yrs old) every winter at lease 2 or 3 times I'll come out in the morning and the truck is at the bottom of the driveway. The weight of the truck compresses the ice causing water to form between the wheels and the ice, slip a bit and off it goes . . .
