Hi,

My windshield is cracked and I need to replace it. My current windshield does not have a tinted band across the top. Was a tinted band offered on any 3rd Gen year/trim? If so, I would like to have mine replaced with one.

Thanks,

Ray

I've had Safelite come in and put windshields in my trucks... 135. 00 each or there abouts... they usually do 2 or 3 once a year as we break them... we tell them on the phone what we have and they bring out a standard windshield... to be honest I can't tell you if its tinted at the top. . don't really think so... but its a direct replacement for the stock window...

Before I'd pay an up charge of more that $10 for a tinted band I'll put some window tint on it my self... We've done that to the rear windows of the trucks that we bought that do not have it as a stock window... we don't buy rear sliders...

Hope this helps...

On an 06 there is a dotted area behind the rear view mirror but no band.

Don't know if you have or use one, but window tint does reduce the effectiveness of the radar detector

If you have glass coverage or don't mind spending a little extra, find a PPG glass dealer. IMO, there is no glass equal to PPG. When looking at a cheaper brand from a side angle, you can see waves in the glass. They are also apparent at night when light hits from different angles.

Thanks for the PPG tip. I was bent on having it replaced with the OEM Safeguard brand. It sounds as if a factory shade was not an option.

Tramp's right about PPG. I had my first three windshields replace with the OEM and they never made it more than one year before they cracked again. They seemed brittle and if hit anywhere on black border it let go instantly. I talked to the glass place and asked what other kind of good glass they had and they recommended PPG and it was less than the OEM. You might have to have it ordered for your year, but PPG offers various tints and borders. I have seen two sizeable rocks and a bolt off a hauler hit my windshield and it hasn't cracked yet. Large pits but no cracking or spidering.
