Hey all, got one thing I need ASAP and then some advice or experience as well. Getting grinding trying to shift into fourth and a clang very similar to when you lose all the bearings in a u-joint(the u-joints are good).
1. I need a parts breakdown for the transmission, like the ones you see in the manuals that show all the parts and where they go. I am suspecting that when I had the input shaft replaced they did not put the thrust bearing (I think that is what it is called) in. I know for sure they replaced the shaft itself which was part of the kit from South Bend. and then also the pocket bearing that goes behind it. I have a picture below to show what I am talking about. But I saw a schematic at a transmission shop that showed another bearing that was right behind that. Several people have all asked about this thrust bearing when I have described my symptoms and told what was done. The guy that did the work is telling me he doesn't believe that any such bearing should be in there and won't agree to do any work to make the truck right until I show him a schematic. Unfortunately for me I didn't think to get a copy when I was at the shop and I am hoping to try and get him a copy today. We won't even go into why he doesn't already have one to be sure he did the job right the first time.
2. If anyone has had the same experience or has the mechanical knowledge to help substantiate this theory I would greatly appreciate it. I am at the point I am ready to just buy a new transmission and throw it in there. I just need to have this truck running right. I am in the middle of alot of clinical rotations in several different hospitals and am putting on about 1500 miles or better a week. I can't afford to have it go to crap on me.
Give me some fast feedback if you can guys I am hoping to get some answers tomorrow from this guy so that I can start planning when I am gonna take the truck in to have it fixed, either to fix this missing bearing or to redo the transmission.
Thanks Jon
