I've two problems... with my 98. 5, 24 valve truck... (you don't have time to hear about my other problems - 5 kids, age 18-29) .

Problem 1 - Intermittant oil pressure on gauge

Problem 2 - Speed-o-meter at 'zero' until I reach about 65 MPH & ABS brake light on

I believe that the fix for these problems is a new oil sensor & a new rear axle speed sensor. Should I get these at the Cummins dealer or Dodge - I assume Cummins for Problem 1 & Dodge for Problem 2.

How much should these costs? And can these be replaced by the "average" shade tree mechanic... i. e, a 5 minute job takes 3 hours.

Ref oil prressure sensor/switch

Just replaced mine the other day, I purchased it from Cummins for $78 (other Cummins dealerships had slightly different prices). It only takes a couple of minutes to replace, you will need a 1 1/4 inch sensor socket or deep well socket. Part number for oil sensor is 4088390NX.

On my 98. 5, 24 valve it was located on the drivers side of the block near the bottom of the block, near the fuel lift pump, it was behind a large wire harness.

Can't help on the other problem. Haven't had to deal with that yet.

I just bought an oil pressure sensor from Cummins. 76. 69 but there is also a 22. 50 core charge. I did not know this until I saw the invoice. This is a remanufactured part.
