Hey all - I'm wanting to replace my cheapo factory radio with either the CD changer or the nav unit. There is a BIG difference in price between these two so I wanted to see what the Sirius display looks like on the two units. I listen to Sirius 99. 9% of the time and want to see what the artist and song info looks like on the display. Also, do these units scroll that info or is it a static display? If static, any idea how many characters are displayed? Thanks for your help!!

Steve

I have the RAZ radio in mine. . Sirius shows the artist and song name if you push an info button..... Nav is way better, but I am happy with mine, just wish it had an IPOD input jack

I have the REC nav unit but unfortunately my Sirius subscription has expired. If you still want me to take pics email me at -- email address removed -- and I'll send you some pics.

Eric's photo above is the display presented when a channel is selected.

If the "INFO" button is pressed once the screen will display song title and artist's name. The number of characters are limited so if the artist's name is long or is a duet the second name is often not displayed completely.

A second press of the "INFO" button will display the missing portion of a long song title or artist's name.

Thanks for the replies! I'm still thinking about getting the NAV unit but that is a LOT more $$$ than the RAQ unit. Does anyone know if the NAV unit shows longer song/artist names on screen than the RAQ?

Go HDD !!!!!!!!!

Hey all - I'm wanting to replace my cheapo factory radio with either the CD changer or the nav unit.

Steve :

Get neither !

Look into the newer HDD systems; my wife's 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has one, and the NAVI and HDD are awesome... ... . especially the HDD.

I can dig up another thread from a different site if you want more info. I'm debating performing the swap in the Mega.

Hey Greg - I just found out that oemautopartsco.com will have a bezel filler available for the MYGIG units in the next week or so. Looks like they will have everything needed to do a clean install. I would need the NAV bezel as well. I think I'll be going with the RER unit. Thanks for the tip!

zman,

Have you considered a portable / docking satellite radio instead??

I am a huge Sirius fan and have had at least one receiver going since the service first became available.

I get far more use out of a portable as I can take it out of the truck or car and dock it in the garage radio for the weekend, turn the FM transmitter in the unit on and pick up the signal in the house for the wife. If you have or get a CD/radio unit with an aux in jack and cable the docking station to it the sound is great.

I just bought her the stand alone portable docking station for her Starmate 5 so that she can set it up on jobsites. She loves it and has it taken it 60 miles back in the woods this week for a job and is running it on batteries. She called me last night and said 8 D batteries will run it about two days straight. Today they will have a generator going so will be on AC for a change. :-laf

I have a MyGig radio just like the one above in the T&C and it is a great unit. I got it so that I could have the rear DVD and it also has the Sirius in it. But I only run the van once in a while so I don't get the value from that subsciption that I do from the two portables.

Also the MyGig radio has stopped working (almost like it can't boot up) a couple of times when it has been cold (0 or below) out. The volume will not change, the power button will not turn it off, and you can't change any funtions, stations etc. .

I took it to show the dealer one day when it was doing it and all I got was a blank look. #@$%!

I made them document it so that there is a record of it screwing up.

I don't know if I would buy one for a retrofit, not much warranty for something that costs a lot of money.

Just my . 02 worth, thought you might want a different viewpoint to consider.

Mike

Mike... .

You may want to look into pulling the IOD fuse (Ignition Off Draw) for a few minutes... ... I *think* I read somewhere that ahould allow the unit to re-set. May be worth a shot.

Greg

Hey Mike - That sux about your MYGIG. I hear what you are saying regarding warranty vs. price. I listen to Sirius nearly 100% of the time. When I'm not listening to Sirius, I'm usually listening to my iPod. I already have 3 portable units in our other vehicles and considered the same for my truck but like the idea of the OEM look, especially with the RER unit. Now that there is a bezel filler available for the MYGIGs, I'm leaning that way but still having an issue with the $$$. If I go with the MYGIG, I'll post back with some pics.

Steve

Greg,

Great idea about the IOD fuse.

God knows I have had to reboot the truck a couple of times to straighten out the dome lights and temp display, never even occurred to me that the new van might need the same treatment:eek:

I will try it this weekend, won't know if it is cured until next winter but at least is still in warranty until 2011.

If the dealer doesn't lose the paperwork on the first incident. #@$%!

zman,

Don't blame you for liking the factory look of the MyGig. It is a nice unit and very smart.

Maybe Greg's IOD suggestion will fix mine for me. It is a minor thing at this point, just worried about repeat episodes after warranty has run out.

One thing I just thought of is you may have to override the display brightness after dark on a long drive. It dims when you turn the headlights on, but after a while it seems too bright out in the sticks. You can dim it further but then have to change it back to auto dim or you can't see it in the daylight. :-laf

Can't have everything, ya' know.
