I need new tires for my 2004. 5 3500 srw 4x4. It is totally stock. I want a larger tire to fill out the wheel wells but, I don't want to change rims unless I have to. I would like advice and pics if you have them of similar trucks, without a lift.

Thanks,

Jeff

255/85 BFG Mud Terrains would fit those rims and they are 33. 2 inches tall, oh wait those are 17 inch rims, how about the new 285/70R17 from BFG

I just put on Goodyear Wrangler extreme A/T's in a 315/70/17 on my stock rims. They are awesome and are a lot quieter than the Wrangler MTR's I had on before. Nice thing is my MTR's in a 305 would rub the control arm at full wheel lock, but these 315's don't. I also have a 3" spacer in the front.

Here is mine with Power Wagon Wheels and BFG 285/70R/17s. Stock front height and the rear is lowered almost 2" by moving spacers under rear springs to the top of the springs.

Here is a couple of pictures of mine. Like the signature says, 315 BFG's on H2 wheels. I do have a 2 inch leveler but I honestly don't think it was necessary except at extreme turning.

FWIW, I originally had these tires on the stock steel rims with no problems.

Next tires will be the 33 or 35" Toyo's.

Stock suspension, Stock Wheels, 285 /70 BFG All Terrain T/A KO Load Range (D) 44K miles 65% worn through. Very quiet tire, works well off road & through snow but will be looking for something with a little stiffer sidewall and more aggressive tread soon. Likely Cooper Discoverer STT or BFG Mud Terrain.

I'd like to point out that the BFG 315's come stock on the H2's, and are often available as takeoffs at your local performance tire center. Those tires are close to $300 each new, but you can get the lightly used takeoffs for $50/each or so. I'm going to go that route on my truck. At that price, I can afford to squeal the tires!
