I thought I saw an add in the TDR magizine a couple of years ago where an after market firm offered a "pseudo" catylist, that when installed, looks just like the real one, but is just a straight-through, expanded pipe.

I looked through my old TDR issues, but can't find it.

Does anyone know the name, or website for this company?

Thanks, M.

I was looking at replacement cats for under 500 bucks with free delivery. The website is thoroughbreddiesel.com. Hope this helps.

Just take the out let pipe off get the largest sped bore bit you can find with a nice long reach and , oh don't for get the dust mask and safe glasses, and punch as many holes through as you can... . Keeps the STOCK look but frees up the flow... . Just don't get caught something like a $10,0000 fine for screwin with emmissions stuff. Oh, and the cost of replacin that $1500 diesel cat

It won't take a rocket scientist to figure out that something is wrong with the cat... . Diesel exhaust that passes through a cat has a completely different smell to it. These inspection stations or what ever they'll call them will be seeing many trucks a day and I'm sure they'll know what the exhaust is supposed to smell like... . If it smells like a normal diesel then the kitty is gutted... . If it smells like a can of 20 year old oil based paint then the kitty is working. I hate the smell of diesel exhaust that has passed through the cat, I though of gutting mine but then I realized that the smell would be gone... Which may be a dead give away to a semi trained smog inspector.

Don't even think about gutting a Cat in California. I got stopped in a randome check point and the guy broke out a heat gun and took a temperature reading off the outside of the cat. When I asked him what gives he said if it had a low temp he would know it was gutted and I would have a very bad day. This was just above San Francisco cruzing down the 101. I highly advice against it. They make High flow Cats for gassers. I'm sure some one out there makes em for diesels to.

IMHO... . Anyone getting rid of their Cats, DPF or any other emission related items from their truck is crazy. If you remove them then KEEP them incase. I think that it won't be long before ALL 50 states will be checking our trucks. You had better have a programmer like a Smarty that doesn't leave any trace because the techs WILL be plugging into your OBDll ports also. My friend in Wash. state has already had to have his '02 checked twice. My $0. 02

when did this happen? I live in San Rafael and this is the first I have heard of roadside checks. I dive 101 in Marin constantly and see CHP cars almost everyday? Did the officer give you any reason other than you were driving a pickup truck?

it was a randome check point stop. No rime or reason. I was on my way to Fort Brag to go diving for Abalone. I thought it was odd. fortunately my Cat was in. I was considering a turbo back system with out a cat until after this happened. I have heard of this being done down in Long Beach area as well. It is just not worth it anymore. I have had a lot of fast cars and bikes with all the CARB legal parts. I am just going to wait till they start building that stuff for our trucks.

I drive from San Rafael to Petaluma 6 days a week... . I've yet to see any enforcement on the CHP's part for CARB's issues. I am getting ready to install my Silverline 4" T304 Turbo back system, Since the stock system is 4" I am going to incorporate the CAT... Unmolested. There's really no gain on loosing the CAT... Just the Silverline system with the stock cat will flow better than the stock system with CAT. The stock system has a resonator as well as a muffler... Silverline just has a muffler. As on my 06QC... I'll be using stainless steel band clamps instead of the crappy galvanized U clamps.

AMcormick... . Where are you located in SR?? I live over by Dominican off of Grand Ave.
