Competition studs or fire rings?

Competition Results from Stanford, KY 7-7-07

just recently pulled last saturday up in Port Hope, MI. In my opinion i thought i did ok had some egt problems, but other than that did ok. but i wanna know from some of you 2nd gen guys what kinda tips, strategies etc. . are working pretty well at pulls.

my truck is a 99 dodge 4x4 hts auto, edge juice w/attitude, AFE cold air intake, 4in straight pipe w/6in tip, ats manifold, holly blue fuel pump w/big lines 4. 10 gears and ive been runnin 3rd down the track/315/75R16 tires. ive been runnin with the suspension blocked up but allowing 1 inch of travel and deflating my tires to about 35 psi my last pull but havent really done anything different.

Well, a set of ladder bars would help you out on the traction as well as stepping down to a smaller set of tires. Maybe 285's..... a set of lockers, and trying to build some boost before you start off will help also. Is this a daily driver or is it going to be a straight puller? To do any real pulling you will need a few more power adders, injectors and a bigger turbo would help out.

hitch height as high as they allow, leave your back tires at 50psi and air your fronts down to about 25-30psi.

throw some weights in the bed to get you right up to the 8k lbs limit or whatever limit they have

With the 4. 10's on the auto you need to think where your gonna run, 3rd gear or 2nd. 2nd stay with the 315s or 3rd go way down to like a 265. Keep a smaller turbine housing on a new charger if your gonna run 3rd. What you will find is 2nd gear is a little too slow and 3rd gear your RPM will be turning kinda low if the convertor is locked. The smaller turbine housing will allow you to stay on the charger. Of course with the stock charger you won't fall off of it. What to remember is that 3rd gear is direct, just like the 6 speed guys running 5th LO.

yeah this truck is a daily driver. i do have a set of traction bars on the back, actually forgot to say i have a set of 100 hp injectors, lookin and gettin my level 6 for my edge juice also. and possibly might have a HTB2 62/12 on the way( only problem is its off of an 05 and have to see if its going to mount up to my 99, if any of you guys now let me know if it will!) the last pull i ran 3rd gear LO with the 315's, im sure a smaller tire might help but dont know of any i can use. the TTPA scale is about 4-500 pounds off so last time i threw in 2000 pounds in the cab to try to weigh the front down but i didnt throw any in the bed. I aird the fronts down to 35 and rears to 40. idk im hopin with these maybe soon to be power mods i might be able to run with these insane programmed duramaxes.

If you are wanting to run your box on 6 and stay in it I would say maybe a 64/14. No an 05 wont fit on a 99, has to do with the intercooler piping and exhaust flange I think. The duramax's do well off the bat b/c the can rev high with a few tunes. If you could afford it I would say look into some bigger sticks (200hp or so) and a silver bullet 64 or 66, just my thoughts. Maybe the pros will hop in.
