I have searched and cannot figure this out - working on this as I type - I installed the TST AFC spring kit and while I was at it I decided to check my Gov Lever Arm adjustment - Here is what is going on:



With the #5 plate full forward the governor lever did not touch the plate - I took the back cover off the pump to adjust the governor lever and figured I would slide the plate back a hair and see what happens. Now (with the plate back a little) the lever hits the plate but does not move up?? Is it supposed to ride up on the plate? I pull up on the solenoid and have someone get in the truck and press the go pedal and it hits the plate at the bottom and stops? Is this correct? Should I move the plate back full forward and adjust the gov lever? Waiting to put the truck truck back together please advise... Thanks

Moves when running

The arm should hit the plate above the lower point or tip. You don't want the arm to catch under the plate. It won't move up the plate untill the truck is running and the rpm rises.

The arm doesn't have to hit the plate either, when it is not running, so if you want to, move the fuel plate back forward where it was.

The governor lever only moves up the plate with increasing engine rpm. The initial strike point is a start point to adjust the no boost fuel stop and approximate how much engine rpm it takes to get into the sweet spot.



The governor lever is also factory set to strike a STOCK fuel plate at STOCK position.

Sliding the plate forward defeats a lot of things such as max rack travel. The arc travel of the govenor lever causes contact (or no contact in your case) depending on the setting. That's why Piers posted the tech facts on setting the lever based on the fuel plate profile AND position.
 
Greg - thanks for the quick reply - When the plate is slid full forward the arm would completely go under the plate. So I should move the plate back full forward and make the necessary adjustments so that the lever contacts the bottom tip of the plate? Just want to make sure I get it right the 1st time - thanks, Jack
 
Just got her put back together - thanks Greg and John for the quick help... Man that made one big difference in bottom end. The governor lever has been riding under the plate for over a year and I did not even know it:rolleyes:

fishjack1, was it a PITA to adjust that lever? I was going to do it until I installed my #10 plate and the versatility of that plate prevented me from adjusting it. But if I move the plate full forward I believe I would have to adjust it some. Just hatin' those tight quarters back there with my big a$$ hands.
 
JGheen - It was not as bad as everyone makes it sound... . If your truck is a 4x4 get a chair or something else that you can stand on and get over the engine compartment. I had a right angle ratcheting flat head screwdriver that worked great. Once you get up and over the fuel pump you can easily see down behind the pump without the use of a mirror. Hope this helps...
