My buddy has an '03 dodge (not HO, 250 HP) with the 47RE automatic transmission. He is looking to add a bit more power (max 425HP), and was looking for advice on a quality, affordable aftermarket torque converter and shift kit. He rarely tows, so he's really just looking to safeguard his transmission whenever he 'gets on it'. Any product recommendations would be appreciated.

I would go with an HTS shift kit. . It make a very noticable difference, and the cost is only $70. As far as torque converters go, there are several vendors that offer a good torque converter. Unfortunately, they are all kind of pricey. I have no experience with anyone other than Suncoast. I have put them in three different trucks now, and they all have been great. . HTS also uses Suncoast converters with their transmissions. . Good luck. .

ATS,DDT,NADP, all have trucks around 1,000 HP. NADP has been killing them lately at the races. they all are WAY better than stock, good luck :-laf

Been very happy with DTT

My 01 now has over 165k on the clock and the DTT still shifts great, my dad now drives it daily with a dump trailer and he loves the way it pulls through the Mission Viejo Hills in SOCAL... I will be adding one of their converters to my 05 when I finally get some money to do it, not to mention they are great people!

DTT,but call them all and get their feedback. I think the overwhelming difference is the installer. Make sure he is authorized and fairly close in the unlikely event of a problem.

They all make great trannys I just chose Goerend because I felt he was the most straight forward. I did research and found a few upset with ATS, a few upset with DTT, but could not find one person who was upset with the way Dave had treated them. That sold me and after a year I could not be happier with my choise. A DTT might hold a little more but the goerend transmission will survive up until 600HP with a 47RE, One reason DTT will hold more is they are putting in different front clutch drums. Dave can get you on of those if that is what you want. Just give them all a call, tell them what you want to do and make your call from there. Installer is the key also. Dave will ship a transmission anywhere, I think alot of the DTT guys will build yours in their shop. Good luck

Dave Goerend's products and customer service (both before and after the sale) are SECOND TO NONE. I mean second to none - in any business/service related affair I have ever had to deal with! This guys TC/trans will hold power without question, and the daily driveablility (which is incredible) is a credit to how versitile his TC/trans really is. I guarantee he will be happy.

I recently had a NADP Converter and VB installed and am quite pleased so far. By far the best price around as well. $1800 Canadian (tax included) installed. It's a single disc converter good for up to 450 HP. Bumped up my mileage a bit and now shifts like it should from the factory. Much better than the BD unit I had in my last truck.

However, if I was to do an all out 600+ HP truck my money will go to DTT.

FWIW

I am scheduled for a Goerend Bros triple disc torque converter in two weeks. My installer swears by them and runs one in his personal (807 hp) CTD. He claims that their customer service is outstanding. Can't wait!!!!

I live about 30 miles form Goerend Brothers and never even knew it tell I was on their web site just now. Heck I have even met Dave (a few years back) and was in his shop when a friend of mine had them build a trans for his powerjoke ford. He did an excellent job and the truck felt awesome when it was done, and has had no problems. I have always know of the shop as the transmission boys in St. Lucas, I guess I had never put 2 and 2 together tell just now. Thanks again and love this site!!
