Off Roading Need rim width advice

I am looking at getting the Weld Evo Velociti wheels. I am going to put 35's on them. What would be better, 17 x 10 or 17 x 8. 5. Also what does 4. 5" backspacing mean. I will be putting a Kore Chase suspension on my truck. Will this backspacing work without rubbing? The tires will be Nitto Mud Grapplers 35 x 12. 5 x 17.

Well the rim width depends on the tire width and backspacing is the measurement from the inside of the wheel were it bolts the the hub to the outside of the rim on thee back side. The less back spacing you have the more the wheels will stick out.

On a 12. 5 width tire, I like an 8" wheel. The 10" wheel puts the edge of the rim about even with the tire tread. If you rub on something with 10s, you can easily catch the lip of the bead and bend the wheel.

The tires will balance out and wear a lot better on the 10" wheel. If you really want to do it right, look at the spec chart from the tire maker and see what the recommended rim width is.

I'v always tried to keep my rim width 2" less than tread width,but I'v seen 315 on narrow duelly wheels.

They WILL rub, been there done that already w/the same backspacing. Had to trim my fenders to make'm work. You could run the 37's on stock wheels just as easily as 35's w/that backspacing.

I made the mistake of letting my local 4 wheel parts shop fit my wheels and they got me 17 x 10 w/ 4. 5" backspacing. They rub even with 315 tires (34. 5"). I love the way my Weld Cheyennes look but I'm going to go with something with 5. 5 or 6" backspacing to get rid of the rub. If you want to try the 10" wheels, let me know, I'm going to be selling mine when I find some others I like.

I put my 20 X 8's on with my chase system and they have never rubbed once. Though i just put fender flares on. Now they rub. In fact they rub so bad it ripped one of the fender flares off. :{ Don't know where the darn thing is. But that Wheel isn't rubbing any more :-laf .
