Wal-Mart worker abducted

Online stock trading?

there was a tv show on a few weeks ago that showed a train with a hugh snow blower mounted to the front, they used it to clear some mountain pass, they said somtimes the snow is so high the workers have to shovel the snow down just so it wouldnt make a snow tunnel, it had 5 engine pushing it all steam engines. that would be cool to see.

With the California Sierras getting 19' of snow in just a few days back at the beginning of the month, I was wondering if the Union Pacific railroad had to bring out the rotary snow plows on Donner Pass. Anybody know?

Bring on the ROTARIES!!!! :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

U havent seen a snowblower til you see a railroad Rotary Plow in action.

Although a wedge plow busting snow at 45mph is cool too.

I was also wondering if the rotaries would come out with all the snow in the Sierras. have no info on that though.

Why do they run steam engines to do this kind of work? Interesting...

Exactly. It happens this railroad not only moves freight, but run tourist trips, and they have a coupe of working steam engines. Evidently their 90-year old steamer is the locomotive of choice when it's time to clear the tracks Oo.

"Rotary on the Cumbres & Toltec" is one of many on the Machines of Iron series.

I caught about half of that show, it was great!! I can only imagine the noise and vibration ... talk about power.

The only reason I could figure they used a steam locomotive over Diesel-Electric locomotive was the lack of movement for cooling the electric motors on the drive wheels . ??

Now that's something I've NEVER heard of or seen... a 'rotary plow'. Sweet.

You know your snowblower is rather large when...

... it can cut a swath big enough to drive a train through!
