Need som eadvice on tps

Do you guy's have to keep adjusting and replacing your tps alot?It seems like I get around 8-9 months on a tps before i have to replace and also I have to adjust at around every 4-5 months I'm sick of doing it . Has anyone tried the potentiometer fix on their truck ,I'm considering doing this because of the headaches from the stupid tps nothing worse than driving down the road and the thing starts hunting.

I have had my truck for over 7 years now. I have put all most 80k on it. I never have had to adjust my TPS.



I did replace my TPS last fall. On doing a voltage check it was dead above 1. 3 volts. It would just go 00's on a multimeter.



The hunting problem can be caused by a lot of issues. Loose connections on the TPS, RPM sensor (crank position sensor is what Dodge calls it). Loose connections at the PCM plug.



I have known Case500D for 3 years now and we have done nothing around the TPS on his wifes W250.



Your saying the TPS keeps dying. Is this confirmed with a voltmeter check? Or do you just replace them whenever the trans starts hunting OD?



As far as using a pot to jury rig it. Not on my truck.

I voltage check the tps and the voltage is real erratic as far as skipping around and usually I change it when that happens. Some people say take it apart and clean them and reassemble them but I just don't feel comfortable doing that .

Have you cleaned and tightened the terminals in the female side of the TPS plug?



Is there a rubber washer between your TPS and the mounting bracket? Mine has one. This would be kind of a water/dust shield.

I don't have a rubber washer between my bracket and tps,I could check the terminals and see if they are loose on the female side,I have never tried that but I'll look also I"m gonna check the trans temp sensor onn the block and make sure it's not bad. I might look at getting a piece of rubber for the bottom of the tps might help with vibration

The rubber is more for keeping trash out. The rubber washer on mine doesn't mount between the bracket and the TPS. It goes between the linkage adapter and the mounting bracket. Its just a flat washer that fits into the recess under the linkage adapter.

Well I got the tps working in spec again thing was down to around . 16 volts. We'll see how long it lasts this time ,when I had the trans redone in febuary they set it to factory specs and all was well until a couple days ago when it starts the usual hunting in o/d just gets worse and worse until either the adjustment is made or the sensor needs to be replaced i looked for the washer you were talking about and it isn't there. So next trip to the dealer i will order one or find another replacement

Last year we had a total of 18 trucks show up. I think 12 or 13 were 1st gen's.



This year will be bigger I bet.
