Aereate(sp) a small pond?

I need some constructive feedback. Its obvious we all love Cummins engines, so lets keep impartiality out of it please:)

I need another dump truck for our company. Needs to be diesel, non-CDL. I have found a used 2001 Dodge 3500 auto 4x4 with 75k and a 9" dumpo and plow. 1 tons are really too small for our business and I don't need a plow, but I love these trucks and the price is good ($23k). Also on my mind are a 2003 F-550 7. 3 with 11k and 4xd4, auto. Better GVW, not a big Ford fan, pricey (38k), but a real nice truck (also has fold down sides on the Crysteel body). Finally, a new Mitsubishi FH. 6 cylinder, less power than both Dodge and Ford, 2 wheel drive, Allison auto, backpak toolbox and non-drop side body, good warranty, excellent reliability, pricey (42k)

I need one that my crew can drive and can tow 15k and last the long haul. I am afraid that the Dodge will plague us with trans and front end issues regardless of how strong the running gear is. However, i can buy a lot of parts for the cost difference. From a business stance, i cannot afford breakdowns, but in the winter the truck will see very little use (we do stone construction and countertops, furniture, etc).

What would you buy and why? I need a truck this week!! and will be trading a 2001 F350 XLT diesel 4x4.

Thank you

I'd get at least the F550, but I have to offer advice similar to Dl5treez, dump trucks take alot of abuse. I'd try to get something a little bigger if at all possible.

While it is true that you can buy alot of parts for the price difference, it's not just about the parts, there's also the lost income from not being able to work the truck as well as the possibility that the truck will be so run-into-the-ground when you're done with it that it won't be worth anything.

The Dodge is a good truck, but it is not the right tool for the job you are trying to do.

Just my . 02
