How long is your daily commute?

well my search for a dodge cummins is pretty fruitless :( so ive been finding alot of 6. 2s and 6. 5 gm diesels and alot of 350 gassers i need to know honestly what would be a better decision for me

Avoid old GM diesels. 350,6. 2,6. 5 diesels are gonna give ya lots of problems.

Old fords with the IH 6. 9 or 7. 3 will work.

Problems why you are not finding a Dodge Cummins is cause guys hold on to these trucks. They last and are so efficient. Parts are eaisly obtained and affordible. Power upgrades are affordible. Enigine does not break with reasonible power upgrades. Manual trannies are strong stock. Auto trannies are not that great. But can be upgraded to almost be bullet proof. (almost)

Ya just have to be patient when looking. When ya find one Act fast on it. Look in truck traders. Ads in the paper. Dealers have them sold before they even set them out in the lot.

what to buy?

first thing i need to know is what do you use the truck for? and let me say that most people that don't like the gm diesels have never owned one. my wife has a 6. 5 suburban with 160,000 miles on it,its had a few minor problems, most of which were ground wires that needed attention. she can have anything she wants to drive, but she loves this sub. furthermore she always drove diesel caddys and buicks back when there were 5. 7 diesels around. they worked fine too. deal is you gotta keep em cool, keep oil in them, keep hot batterys in them. nuff said. ive had the 5. 9 in a 93 dodge,it was ok. had some issues with it and sold it,bought a 95 powerstroke. it was ok too. then bought a f650 with a cat in it,bad move! engine troubles galore. . so,if you don't haul heavy loads the 6. 5 will do you fine,i just don't know how they hold up towing heavy stuff. my wifes truck has never towed anything. .

dbogo, dont be scared of 6. 2 or early 6. 5 gm diesels,i have owned 7 of them ,still got 5. miles are from 70k to 364 k, if you intend on doing a lot of heavy towing, keep looking for a ford or dodge diesel,if not, a gm will do you just fine, ive done a {lot}of heavy towing with my 82 6. 2 3/4 ton, 12 years ago i put a turbo on it,made a big difference, truck has 362k on it now and a ton of ideling time...

well what im goin to be doing is daily driving maybe hauling a bobcat once and a while and towing some enduro racers and demo derby racers on the weekend

If you're willing to travel for a truck, look around in my area (north Texas). I see good used trucks all over the place down here. Just don't buy anything I might have owned. ;)

I looked for over a year before I found my truck! Keep looking. . one will turn up and you will be glad you waited!

Nothing wrong witht the 350 gassers. have put over 300,000 (lots of them loaded) on a 3/4 ton. Didn't have nearly as many problems as the dodge does, and was a lot cheaper to maintain.

But, now after driving a ctd, it would be hard to go back to a gasser.

6. 2 JUNK!!!!!!! DO NOT! I bought a 83 chevy 1 ton 2wd dump truck3 speed w/ granny, ran fine just GUTLESS then one evening with NO LOAD (dirt/trailer& mowers... ) I suddenly got a hard nock, we coudlnt figure out what it was because it would shut off and start and run! though it would nock HARD, pulled the motor... BROKEN CRANK! well I found another motor slapped her in... GUTLESS once again! so a week later I bought another 6. 2 for when the time comes to swap the present one out. I know the motor that was in the truck was not the orig motor, and im sure it had quite a few b4 that!. My cousin/boss has a 95 gmc 1ton 4wd auto with 89,600 6. 5 It goes but leaks oil like a bucket with birdshot! It has some power to pull the backhoe and 38' gooseneck but nothing too impressive! My final . 02 DONT go with the 6. 2/6. 5 especially the 6. 2 the best place for those motors are at the bottom of a lake for anchors! and even then they wouldnt perform!!!!!!

my. 02
