I want a deep sound thats fairly loud out of my 06, my brother in-law just put a straight pipe on his 00' and man dose that thing ever sound good, if only i could get mine to sound that good! Ive heard that the mbrp 5" with no kitty has a awesome sound to it, i kinda want to go with 5" for future modds. What do some of u think?

I would stay away from 5", due to the fact that unless your over 650hp, it will actually make your egt's higher. I wish our 3rd gens sounded like the 2nd gens do, but we're not so lucky. I'm currently running MBRP's 4" duals and it sound great. Has a real deep sound, I think you'd be happy. You could also go with 5 or 6" stacks, that would give you a deeeeep sound! Waiting to put mine back on. Just my $. 02

I have my truck staight piped from the turbo back and my friend and I have decided that my truck seems to be louder than his 99 straight piped. Or at least when I'm on it. You have to find some way of losing your kitty to make her loud, I found that one out quickly. I just kept my stock four inch and it sounds great. However, I just recently put an exhaust tip on it and the tip seems to vibrate and cause a drone above 2300 rpm. I would just lose your muffler and kitty and don't put an exhaust tip on it. Cheap and sounds great.

That is the same experience I have recently had. MBRP 4 inch cat gone and I would get the common drone around 1800 rpm. I just added a double walled resonated tip and now the drone around 1800 is gone but the truck has a bad drone above 2200 RPMs. I wonder if it isn't that big heavy tip vibrating the tail pipe. When I take the tip off the drone diminishes but the exhaust note doesn't have as mean of a growl. The tip really gives the exhaust a more aggresive note but the drone has got to go.

I believe that my tip is 5 inch chrome single walled that was welded on so I can't just take it off. I figured that having it welded on would help prevent it from rattling or vibrating, may I was wrong. Once I reach above 2000 rpm it also develops a raspy tone. Any ideas on why? Thanks Corey

If someone could find a cure to the drone problem I would have to congratulate them, I have read the endless posts on exhaust and mufflers vs. straight pipes on here and I have found that its a matter of perception, myself personally I wont put up with any annoying drone or resonance, so although I would like a little louder exhaust I have left mine stock thus far. Depending on the person, some seem to be able to put up with alot more resonance and will tell you it's "not bad" wile others will tell you to steer clear of the exact same system.

I think I would have to hear it to be sure.

HP is air in air out. 650hp and up flows enough to need 5" exhaust. Lower HP with 5" exhaust won't scavenge as good as 4" will.

I straight piped my 05. . The sound was loud, but had that raspy sound. . I didn't care for it much. . I went with a walker 21471 muffler from napa for less than a hundred bucks, and a nice 5'' tip. . The drone isn't there anymore, and it has a nice sound. . I wish this thing would sound like my 12 valve with a straight pipe. .

I just put a 4" silverline on and below 2k it is a little louder than stock once you start getting above 2k it starts to really sound good.

I had an MBRP dual 4" stainless system on my 04. 5, it sounded nice and deep, no drone. Left the cat in place. On the '06 I ordered just an MBRP replacement muffler and tip, it should show up this week. I figured since our trucks come with 4" exhaust from the factory, just replacing the muffler should be the same performance gain as a new 4" system. 4" exhaust systems are big enough to handle well over 600 HP. Even my previous turbocharged racecar (88mm turbo, 1200 HP) only had a 4" downpipe on it. 5" systems are overkill and offer nothing additional performance-wise.

AFE actually makes a kit that allows you to put a highflow muffler in the stock system. Its called a TOM KIT 03-06 49-10053 Aluminized , 49-40053 Stainless Steel. This kit comes with everything you need clamps, hangers, & tubing.

Initially I went with the Magnaflow 5" single exhaust, and while it sounded alot better, it was still almost too quiet to hear. After removing the muffler the sound was moderately loud, but definately not annoying in the cab. With the windows down, it was probably a little loud for most people's taste, but I think it sounded pretty good. I recently added a SPS66 turbo, and it mellowed out the sound a lot... the poppy, tinny sound is gone, and instead you can hear the turbo whistle alot louder. I think the sound is great now. The only downside is when the jake brake comes on, it is pretty hissy and airish sounding.

I think the Magnaflow 5" kits sound the best. The 5" MBRP I am running now sounds great, but at 75 mph the drone is killing me. The reason the Magnaflows are not too loud and dont have drone is because their muffler has a 4" core. The MBRP kit uses the same 6" muffler shell they do with their 4" kits so theres really not much room for sound deadening material due to the 5" core. I talked to Silverline and they are coming out with their 5" kits soon that will have what sounds to be a very impressive muffler.
