I have been having some issues with my truck for some time now and I just want to fix it. I had multiple things go out at once about a year and a half ago. I do not remember exactly what I did to the truck before hand but I think I replaced both batteries. Anyways here is the big list:

Mileage and tripmeter

Brake light on

ABS light on

Speedo isn’t working

Engine temperature isn’t warming up correctly

Cruise control

All overhead gauges MPG, miles until empty, compass, temp.

The door don’t lock after 15mph

And more stuff I can’t remember right now.

I have looked at all the fuses and checked most of the grounds. I can live without this stuff but it makes me nerviest whenever I go out of town. I kind of think it’s an ECM or something but I am open to ALL suggestions. BTW it’s a 2000 3/4ton 2wd.

Thanks

All of that looks to have a common theme. Everything that you have mentioned runs through or is signaled from the ECM and PCM computers. I would pull the plugs on the ECM and check them for corrosion, water intrusion or anything that should not be, maybe oil has gotten in around the connector pins.

Rinse the connectors our with IPA (isopropal alcohol) and then dry them out with a air gun and warm the up with a hair dryer and put it back together and see if that helps.

ECM and PCM computers both will have some large connectors. Start with those.

I second the speed sensor, mine only worked above 15mph and the ABS was on. Might also try to disconect the juice for a couple of hours to reset the PCM. The locks may need to be reset at dodge with a PCM flash. Hope this helps

I unpluged the ECM and the PCM, cleaned them and that didn't fix it. I also unpluged the speed sensor and cleaned it up and nothing. I might just replace it tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks guys, keep them coming.

My abs and brake lite are on too. Scanner shows rite front wheel speed sensor circuit open. Could be one side or the other on yours. I'd also suspect that rear wheel speed sensor. Also check computer ground, and cab ground. Wiring stuff will drive a person crazy to find problems.

Well guys I put the a new speed sensor in a it fixed just about everything. How it fixed the locking doors and compass I have no clue but I don't really care. I will find out tomorrow if the engine warms up faster. Thanks

These trucks and all others that depend on computers, sensors, miles of wiring and plugs are going to be big problems when they get older. Having spent the last 23 years on aircraft maintenance, especially float planes operated in salt water I know only too well the problems of water and corrosion the many problems that this can cause. I have been taking all the plugs apart, and cleaning all the grounds each year. the product I use is ACF-50 which is used on aircraft to prevent corrosion. never had an electrical problem in9 years.
