Cummins Inc. plans to temporarily lay off 125 workers

Hey all,

Looking at a 1997 2500 Chevy that has been converted to a cummins. Anyone have any pointers or thoughts as to what I should look for in terms of the conversion to make sure it was done right. Also it has a gm gas version of the nv4500 behind it. Any significant differences?

Finally, it was done with a non-I/C engine. I am going to be towing a 10,000 lb trailer on occasion. This is the area that worries me the most.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Pete

the non ic engine tend to overheat on hard pulls with that kind of weight. And that nv4500 gas wont take much abuse from a cummins 4 or 6 cyl.

Good luck, Brian

The main thing on the trans is smaller input shaft and cheby clutch. Probly won't handle much along the line of power. The rest of the trans is the same as the dodge. Don't worry about the non I/C engine. It'll be fine.
Check the motor mounts to see if they are built heavy enough(Front to back stability). Look for serpentine belt alignment (Read: excessive belt wear, scuffed badly on backside etc etc). What rear does it have. Make sure it's the heavy one.
Other than that it should be fine.

Thanks. It has the 14 bolt rear. It sounds as though the motor mounts were a dodge/gm amalgamation... .

Supposedly this person's 4th conversion? I have owned a 93 CTD that ran good, but I am worried about the i/c especially hauling loads up to 10k.
