So, my new truck is having issues again. Some of you may recall that about 2 months ago I had to have the head replaced because the truck was making fuel.

Now, all of sudden today it starts acting up as I am driving down the freeway. As I accelerate from 5th to 6th, the truck starts sputtering. The more "go" you give it, the more it sputters and black smoke starts coming out the tail-pipe. After driving it home I discover that it seems to be at it's worst at 1500+ RPM in 5th and REALLY bad in 6th.

It seems to me that the sputtering starts when the turbo kicks in. It feels like the truck is de-fueling for lack of a better term.

One other interesting tid-bit; when I pulled into a parking lot, it sound like my door locks clicked. I thought maybe it could be electrical but I am at a loss.

Look forward to the responses.

If it were my truck that was acting this way, I would change the fuel filter.

I hope this helps you, It very well could be the problem, I would give it a try before I got too deep into the troubleshooting.

Sounds like your turbo isn't working properly, or you're loosing boost somewhere.

If it's smoking black it's most likely not defueling. Sounds like you aren't getting enough air. Check all your hoses from the turbo to CAC to intake horn, eliminate leaking hoses as a problem. Are you hearing any hissing, or did your truck make a "pop?"

Connections appear tight, air filter looks fine will check the fuel filter this weekend. I am leaning more and more towards teh MAP sensor. Truck is scheduled to go in on Monday.

Well, the verdict is in. Turned out to be contaminated fuel. Replacement of filter, purging of lines, cleaning of tank and replacement of damaged fuel pump totals $970. Got the fuel from a local Shell station. Turns out my area received some contaminated fuel and I am not the only one who got it. My dealership alone has already seen 10 trucks with the problem.

Shell corporate is already working with me so hopefully I will get my money back and get it back soon.

Wow, so you didn't damage the CP3 or any injectors? That's a good thing, considering the pump is $1300 and the injectors are $600 ea.

What was the fuel contaminated with? Water? No WIF light?
