need some quick help...fuel filter

I changed my fuel filter today, and i finished up and tried to start it. . it ran for a little bit, then stopped. How do i prime the fuel system now? what should i do to get my baby running again... and it needs to run today. HELP! thanks

I changed mine for the first time a couple weeks ago. Just dropped in the new one, tightened cap, and "bumped" key 3 times to fill canister. I could hear pump working after each bump. Did you try that?

Turn the key like you are going to start, but just bump the starter. The lift pump will run continuos fo about 25 seconds. Do this 5 times then try starting it. Pressing the accelearator some will help fire it off if stubborn. It'll smoke and gasp some at first, but will clear quickly.

Mike if you had it running and it quit , bump like some one said then try to start you can run the starter for a 13 second try in each one min interval two times , then space start try out over longer time . let starter cool . If at home use battry charger to keep battry up between attempts to start . We all have had the same thing happen to us. Do disconnect battry charger from system before start attempt . You have test ports on top of filter housing left one as you face filter is after filter loosen and place rag on filter see if pump is pumping fuel as last resort if pumping air if any will come out and retiten fitting it is a 1/8 npt no sealer on thred. Keep on cranking it will start , LOL Ron in Louisville KY P. S let us know if you get it started ?

Hopefully it starts after you bump the starter a few times. Like said above, loosen one of the test plugs on top, the right one is prefilter and the left one is post-filter pressure. You can bump the starter, rush to the plug and loosen it by hand a little bit, and see if it bubbles around the edge of the plug. You can repeat this a few times.



If nothing comes, bump it once again, and pull one of the plugs out, hold your finger over the hole, and see if any air pressure builds up against the finger. Watch carefully because if the filter suddenly fills, you will have diesel everywhere if the plug is out.



If there is no air pressure building up against the finger, you have been scorched by the lift pump demon, and your lift pump is probably toast. I just went through this a week ago, and I had to use a hand vacuum pump to prime the filter to get the truck moved.

hi,i had the same promblem. what you need to do is bleed the air out. bump the starter like the guys said but you need to crack the bajo bolt enough to get air out. do not remove the bajo bolt just loose enough to get air out. keep bumping starter until you see fuel coming out. put a rag under to catch any fuel,once you get fuel flowing tighten bolt to 18ft. lbs. . you will have to crank engine for at least 20 seconds no more than 30 seconds. the banjo bolt is your fuel supply line drivers side good luck. nick
