Crunched my rear bumper, thinking about a vented tailgate...

Gen 3 frame issues for custom GN hitch

I'm in Alaska and thinking about taking next summer off to travel the states. I have a 35 ft 5ver that is pretty heavy. I'm guessing gross is around 21,000 with my truck. I mostly just tow it a couple times a year around the state to construction sites.

How close do the coppers and such watch for over weight 5vers? I haven't decieded if I'm taking it, or if I'm trading it off.

Also anyone have a suggests for great places to visit and see? Thanks

I've been towing travel trailers, 5th wheels, and hauling slide in truck campers for recreational purposes for over 30 years all over the lower 48 and have never been stopped for overweight or stopped at a weigh station. :D I did get a ticket once in the early 70s for speeding while towing a travel trailer.

There is good thread in the 3rd generation page concerning high EGT's. You may want to read it. You will definitely be dragging your 5th wheel over some high mountain passes!

I live in Colorado and have 36 ' Open Road 5er.

Write to me directly and I can give you some ideas when I see port of entry and basic time frame.

If using campgrounds get Passport America, Happy Camper and some others I know of to save some $. Will direct you to web sites.

Peace.

I am not sure as to where I am to post my question. Please give me some instructions if this is not the right spot.

This is my question:

I want to purchase a travel trailer with a dry hitch weight of 1000lbs. and gross vechile weight of 11,700 lbs.

Will my 03 2500 long bed 48RE 4. 10 pull this ok?

What gauges should I consider having installed if I plan to travel in the mountains out west?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

HenryH, do you have gauges yet? Definately get EGT,boost and transmission temp if you don't have allready. Hard to know what's going on in there if you can't see what the engine is doing! A fuel pressure is not a bad idea either!
