I'm looking for the "Rear track outside" dimension on the 3500 Chassis Cab models (dually rear).

I have an older utility bed that is too narrow for newer trucks. I think first gens had a much narrower axle housing in the Chassis Cab models than 2nd gens.

Anyone have a brochure to look this up? Or the actual truck to go measure (outermost tires, edge of tread to edge of tread). Hopefully it will be around 84". New ones are 93".

Thanks in advance!

Scott

I just ran outside and measured my son's 89 D350. Easy measurement since there's no bed, just a frame.

You won't like the answer... ..... 93 inches

Thanks, Jay. Are you sure it's a Chassis Cab, as opposed to a standard pickup with the bed removed?

Also, if any of you have a brochure or know, was a 1st gen Chassis Cab available in a Club Cab? (2nd gens only avail in standard cabs. )

Thanks.

Scott

You could not get a 1st gen Cab & Chassis with a Club Cab.

The single tire P/U had the narrowest axle of the 3 that Dodge used. The C&C axle was 6" wider to allow for the dual tires. The dually axle was wider by about another 8" or so.

That 84" you looking for is a single tire bed I believe.

Thanks Jay and Philip for your replies.

A single-tire axle would be the narrowest, but I don't think they came in the chassis cab, which has a 60" cab-to-axle (c/a) measurement as opposed to the pickup's 56". Another difference is the C&C would have straight frame rails (no hump over the rear axle).

My utility body needs the 60" c/a dimension so the wheelwells line up.

It is currently sitting on an '86 Ford F-350 C&C dually--the axle is only 84" wide overall.

I bought the Ford for the utility body, hoping to put in on a proper chassis!!!! But finding a 'fit' is much harder than I ever thought it would be!
