Guys,

I'm tired of trying to see the road at night with these factory head lights. I need to purchase some good driving lights that I'm planning to mount on my bumper. I was wondering what ya'll are running and what you recommend. Help!!:D

Okay don't laugh but I went to walmart and bought a set of $30 lights. I put them on the wifes Jeep but man do they work good. They have held up all summer and they work good enought that I am going to add a set of them to my truck too.

I look at it this way, if you buy cheap lights and they get broken then you can replace them real easy. If you buy a set of $300 Catz or Lightforces and they get damaged you will be ******.

PIAA 60XT's fit the openings in the bumper but do require some creativity in mounting and aiming. They were my first attempt at increased front lighting and made a big difference with the OEM headlights on the truck. I later changed to Sport headlights wired so that all eight filaments burn on high beam. Now the PIAA's make but a small difference.

My Sport lamps put out 430 watts of forward light on high beam versus the 130 watts of the OEM non-Sport high beams.

I vote for the Sport lamp transplant.

I also went with the cheapies from wally-world. They have blue tinted glass but project a very white light. Mine fit the factory fog light holes. They have been in use for 1 year with no problems.

In addition, I made my own brite-box, so to speak. I used two relays, kept the wiring runs short, and used 8 ga. wire. One relay activates the driving lights when on hi-beam. The other relay keeps the low-beam filament on when on hi-beam. This has been a great mod for me and has prevented several deer and cow collisions. I can spot the animals much sooner which greatly enhances safety.

It worked so well, I did one of my cars too. I have the drawing I made on an Excel spreadsheet if anyone would like a copy.

I have the Warn lights and love them. They are really expensive but i think they are worth the money. They are Dual beam which is also a nice feature

I decided to go with $49 projector style lights that have a lense almost an inch thick from JC Whitney after walking though a parking lot one day and noticing they were about the only kind that weren't cracked from road rocks. I hole sawed 2'' holes at the lowest point I could on the air dam and made my own mounts. With an auto and the extra cooler there isn't enough room behind the stock holes for most lights and lower is better anyway.

I had the wal-mart cheapies on mine. worked great till somebody thought they needed to steal my CB and they just happened to share the power wire. I took them off after that. They really lighted things up, had 2 fog lights on the grille guard and 4 off-road lights on the headache rack. Ran about $60 bucks all together if I remember right.

Do you mean "Dodge Ram Sport " Cause I'd be interested for sure.

Yes. I was referring to replacing non-Sport OEM headlamps with Sport headlamps on second generation Rams. I notice your signature indicates a third generation Ram.

Lights on the cheap!

Wally World`s clearance table for 19. 99! Who cares if they go out? We put them in the rectangular opening in the bumper. Fit good & lower IS better. DK. Oo.

Anybody try the KC Daylites? I found one of their models online 130 or 150 watt (your choice) stainless housings all for $115/pair. Sounds like a lot of light for the money.

I have been extremely happy with my 100 watt KCs. I have the black painted ones. I'm not sure if I'd go any higher than the 100 watt--mine get pretty darn warm, and I would think the 130 or 150 watt ones might get too hot if you leave them on too long while you're stopped (no airflow). That may not be the case at all though--I've never actually used them myself.

hELLA 4000

I run hella 4000's with the cornering beam on my truck and absolutely love them. The cornering beam puts a lot of light into the ditches on both sides of the highway. This has helped me miss more then my fare shares of moose. My dad has The Big light force lights on his dodge but I think the hella's have a better lens and put out a more useable light. In fact I'm planning on getting a couple more hella's for my truck.

Nathan,

Tell your Dad to get the lenses with the lines on them for his lightforces. I have them and they helped the lights work much much better. They have them in Homer at the Napa...
