5th Wheel Hitch Bolts

air dam for towing

i bent the tailgate on my brothers 97' with the gooseneck. if any body has a forest green tailgate im interested if not what are some good choices in the 5th wheel style tailgates ... what to buy what to steer clear from. any help would be great!!

thanks drew

Tail Gates

You may be limited by what your brother wants since it is his truck. If I were getting for my truck now I would use a tool box. Saw one on the road the other day and it looked real slick. Aluminum diamond plate, lockable, bolted to the bed. and the same width as the opening across the back. Shorter than a tailgate would be closed, so clears the gooseneck nicely, plus lots of " extra secure storage. " Keeps other items in the bed from getting out and as I find out daily extra storage is a good thing. Lots of companies sell these fairly cheaply. R C Oo.

Gees It seems that you drive your brothers truck more than your own?!?!? :-laf Might as well part it out and send the front clip this way along with the mirrors.

there are a couple guys runnin around with some nice chrome ones. Im not sure what brand they are but If I run into one of em Ill let ya know

Doubt he'd want a toolbox in the back.

If using a gooseneck, I personally wouldn't want a tool box, in place of the tailgate. The jack probably couldn't get the trailer hitch high enough to clear it anyways. If I had a 5'er, that would be different.

I have a Stromberg Carlson vented tailgate as shown on the top of this page: http://www.strombergcarlson.com/page4.html

Here's a pic of my turck with the tailgate. I really like the great visibility behind the truck now.

Ken,

I like the tailgate, but was wondering if there was any reason why you didn't go with the plastic molded one? (looks only or do you think the plastic wansn't durable enough?) Also - Do they provide free shipping? And do they tack on sales tax?

Thanks - Terry

I prefer the open design of the vented tailgate for the increased visibility. Shipping was less than $20 if I am remembering correctly. No sales tax for deliveries outside of Michigan.

Drew- I just remembered about a toolbox I saw @ http://www.customtoolboxes.com aka K&W toolboxes when I was looking for a set of keys for mine. Its shaped with a V as the top for your 5th wheel gooseneck to slide over. I dont know if your bro wants a toolbox until you get another tailgate or what youre going to choose.

pic # 7 under Utility & RV toolboxes. They are out of Bronson, MI so they are in state some what close.

My 2 cents:

Unless he said "gee one of those... ... . tailgates would be really nice" he probably liked what he had. I would replace it with what he had before.
