Archived Need "throttle" linkage, 97 12V

I've managed to disable my truck. There is a metal rod with small ball sockets on each end in the "throttle" /accelerator linkage. I removed and heated it with a torch to free the adjustments but in so doing melted the plastic inserts out of the ball sockets so I can't reinstall it. Duh! (In my defense... similar parts on my Mercedes have metal spring clips and tolerate the heat... )



Dodge dealer advises that the ball sockets are no longer available.



Anyone have used parts /or/ know of a source for the sockets or entire rod with sockets?

There was some throttle linkage parts for sale on competitiondiesel.com (I think that is where I saw them) Not sure if what you need is there but that may be a place to look.

I'm sure the throttle rod is available as an assembly. I've had 3 break, and the last one I had to pay for. If your dealer can't find it, you need to find another dealer. In the meantime a piece of wire will do. I once drove from Alamagordo to Tucson with wire after a rod broke. Even cruise control will work. One other thing, the rod ends were replaced under a recall, have you had that done already? There is a kit for that also.

Is it the throttle linkage on the P7100 pump. If it is i have the dodge part numbers for it. If it isnt and it is the throttle cable ends (and cable assembly) i have the numbers for that too.

The parts you need are still available in the recall pkg. Some dealers will sell them to you others may give you static.

When I had my recall done the second time (because the first dealer didn't replace the ball joints on the rod!) at a different dealer, the diesel tech that did all the recalls had a box full of the metal ball joints. Check with the service dept. and see if they have any laying around.

Hello all - thanks for the responses. I was out of town on business so sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I need to use another dealer as they are apparently diesel impaired. The rod ends were metal rather than the plastic ones that were subject to recall (I believe). I went next door to the local Peterbuilt/diesel engine shop and they tracked down Cummins part numbers and got both rod ends in the same day. Just installed a couple of hours ago and all is well. Thanks for everyone's effort to help!
