My BFG Rugged Trails need replacement and I was wondering whats out there. I've done a TDR search so I've read most of whats been previously posted and it appears the load range E tires are scarce. Considering I tow a fifth wheel camper I feel I should really should stick with an E rated tire. One option I have is to install another set of BFG Rugged Trails except I'm really not happy with them. Another option is a local tire dealer mentioned Cooper Discoverer ATR's but I know nothing about Cooper Tires. You guy's got any feedback? Also, are there any E rated 285's or 295's out there?

Rosco it appears Cooper has several acceptable E-rated 17" tires now if you look on their website. The ATR, the Discoverer ST & STT and the boring H/T all come in a 265/70/17 Range E @ 3195lbs.

Rosco, how many miles did you pull out of the BFG's?

I have 30,000 on them. The tires are being replaced due to extreme sidewall splitting and not from lack of tread. I probably have at least another 15-20,000 thousand tread miles left. I've been in contact with BFG and BFG stated it will pro-rate the tires under BFG's warranty provision.

However, I don't love the BFG Rugged Trail and I can't get All Terrain TKO's in load range E so I wondered what else is out there.

Help me out here...

I'm in the market too, and am considering going up a size.

Looking at the BFG All Terrain T/A KO

LT285/70R17/D

It says load range D, but also specifies a max load of 3195lbs@65psi

If I remember correctly, the OEM tire has nearly the same load at range E.

Is this an acceptable substitute as far as load ranges go? According to other threads, this size fits and looks good.
