Need tires on the 5er

At a campground this weekend I noticed a tire on my trailer had a small bubble on it. Trailer is 3 years old. Reckon it is about time I put some new shoes on it. Really thinking about the Michelin XPS Rib. I have heard some scary stories about the tread coming off a tire and it isen't pretty what it does to the underside of a trailer. If you got the Michelins do yall like em OK?

Are they Badyear tires? Take it back, ask for help, then raise hell to get it fixed for free.

I raised a big fuss when my first Goodyear came apart. They replaced all my tires with Goodyears of course and one year later another started coming apart. That's the bad thing about the replacements... . If they would replace them with Michelins it would be great. I won't ever use Goodyear again. They came apart on an earlier 5th wheel, my Dodge truck and my current 5th wheel. I think I've learned my lesson.

I have seen a few tires come apart and usually the only damage is to the fender trim on the cheaper model trailers, and on the expensive ones with all the skirting's and moldings that usually gets damaged as well by all the large flying rubber chunks and strips. One 5er I saw the whole entry side was just trashed and folded up into the belly. Wasn't pretty.

That is what I am afraid of will happen to mine. It is not if it will cause problems it is when. I do have the good for a year tires on the trailer now. I ordered the XPS Ribs from Michelin to put on it.

XPS Ribs seem to be the current choice of a number of people. My trailer is in summer storage right now (I only use it in the winter) but before my next trip I am going to go to the Michelin XPS Ribs too.

I have Goodyear Work Horse Radials on my fiver that will probably need replacing soon. I would like to go to the Michelin which I have been real happy with on my past two trucks. Only problem is I don't think they make the 950X16. 5 anymore or if they ever made it. Does anyone know?

I also have the= badyears HT's on my RV. Check out The Tire Rack they have some great prices on them. I have 3 years on them doing about 5K per year with no problems. I only wish the manufacture put bigger ones on. I have 215-85-16's and the max weight of the tires just happens to match the max weight of the camper, - the tung weight. To close for my comfort. I have to run them at 80psi (load range E) and they still look low.

I recently replaced the tires on my Dodge Ram with six new Michelin XPS Ribs. They are definitely not as smooth as the OEM Goodyears but will wear forever and resist damage from potholes, road debris, etc. Michelin doesn't make them in the size I need for my trailer--235/75R 15s or I would put them on the trailer as well. I'm not a fan of Goodyear Marathon trailer tires.



Dewdo: Go to the SAM's Club website. You can enter the tire size you want and select between Goodyears, Michelins, and a couple other brands. I don't know if the XPS Rib is offered in 950 16. 5 size but the website will tell you.

I like the feeling of the 19. 5 commercial rims and tires that I am running now on the truck. I have talked to Rickson Truck and they will build me a set of 17. 5 commercial rims for the trailer, or I may go with 19. 5 on the trailer too.



They stay a lot cooler when running and don't have the flex of the 16" tires.

My sons wife, Parents are on a trip from Melbourne, Florida to

the Grand Cayon, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmoore and through

Minnesota and finally down to Tenn and Florida. They lost a Goodyear tire on the trailer 2 weeks into the trip. Its a 35ft Holiday Rambler Presidential, two years old.



They were not happy campers.



I left Melbourne, Florida April 23rd for Galveston, spent 34 days there on a job and now in Duluth, MN for 30 more days before heading somewhere. No problems with the tires on my rig yet. I sure don't have Goodyears.
