need to clean headliner

what are some good products that can be used to clean the headliner? I've got some dirt and things up there, but leary of just trying something and it making it a permament stain.

Big disclaimer: I have never tried this on my truck and hope I never have to... ... .



An oilfield service company that we use all the time runs Dodge 1 tons. The headliners have gotten filthy more than once from laborers putting their greasy hands on them . The owner told me that Brakekleen took the oil/grease/mung right off with no ill effects to the headliner! I had a look-there were definitely no permanent stains or holes melted through it..... but I still don't know if I could bring myself to do it. Guess it would be better to try it than to just run out and buy another headliner... ...

That would kind of stink, wouldn't it?





I would try to find one of those super detergents at the parts store. Be sure it is clear and try it on a small spot out of the way.



My headliner was dirty, but it was just dust from running with the 2-60 air conditioner. I just vacuumed it with the shop vac.

The product that I use with great success is made by Prestone and is called "Interior Cleaner" and is in a red can with a plastic scrubber attached as part of the spray head. This stuff works great. I just got my truck back from the trans shop and they got grease on the mats and seats and this stuff took it off in a heartbeat. I have used it on 3 trucks with various cleaning problems and it always works good.

Keep in mind these are crew trucks I'm talking about -even though they are full load except for leather they get treated like just another tool. Like I said, I'd be real hesitant to try it in my truck-but desperate times call for desperate measures..... !
