Goodyear MT/R

Why don't we hear anything of the Goodyear MT/Rs??

They have them in a 305 size for the towing group or the 37/12. 5/17 size for the off road group. The 37/12. 5s have a 4080lb towing capacity!

I have talked to several people local and have had nothing but good things to say about them. I plan on the 37/12. 5/17s for my truck when the BFGs wear out.

Also from Chrysler: When you raise the front of the new trucks (even with the spacer kit-2in. ) the milage will decrease 2-3 mpg.

Joe, I was going to ask if you have looked at the 295 yet, I might go with them on my next set. I lifted my truck before I got the tires and IMO I think that the truck looked better even with the stock tires on it. There should be a loss in MPG, but how much will depend on your driving style, I lost 1-2 MPG. On paper you should get slightly better mileage especially if you have the G56 trans, Just goes to show you that "drag" has more effect on MPG than engine RPM. I kept forgetting to post my truck weights you asked for on another post; front axle 5,000 rear 5,800 trailer 9,100. Hope this helps.

I have looked at the 295's. I think they are easier to get, but also the same price as the 35's. BHaner over on NWBombers and NWDiesels has them on his truck. They are rated at like 3900lbs per tire and look good. They just don't fill the wheel wells as well as the 35's. Although they might be a better choice to keep the gearing close to where I am now with my 33's. I think the 295's measure about 33. 5 tall. My truck has the NV5600.

Thanks, Joe

I have the 35's and 3. 73 gears. I lost a little power on take off but other than that she runs well. I do drive the hills with OD locked out. I smoked my buddies 7. 3 power stroke going up Sunset Point here in Az. I let off at 85 (too fast for towing my mules) and he was maxed out at 65. 33's are the best compromise in my opinion though. I got the 35's for off road hunting and fishing trips. These Mega's need the ground clearance. I get around 20 mpg on the open hiway unloaded (13 with the trailer) and about 14 in town.

Hi Bob,

Do you have any clearance issures with your fifth wheel and your 35's? Why are you thinking of going with the 295's? I will probably be ordering tires in the next couple days.

Joe, I have a Jayco 5th wheel and it has adjustable spring mounts, they are on the second to the highest setting and I don't have any problems with the 5th wheel clearance. I did have to lower the pin height when I went from the Reese hitch to the B&W. The B&W is a little shorter than the Reese.

I might look at some 295 when the time comes, I want to see if they would make any difference in mileage and give me a little more clearance at the front fender, the wheels I have too much offset and I rub a little, but not bad. I would go with the stock wheels but my wife likes these so I am stuck with them. I an sure that when it comes down to it I will end up with the 35s again, they just look that much better  . I will be in Banks Saturday afternoon on the 24th of Oct for Football if you want to stop and say hi.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the info. I ordered the 35" Toyo M/T's on Wednesday. I am going to have them mount them up on Tuesday after I install the D25's and the new Bilstiens I ordered. Hopefully I don't have any problems when I purchase a fifth wheel.

My nephew is coming over for the weekend to help me paint a shed that I just built, I need to get that done before it starts raining. If we get everything finished early enough I may swing out to Banks, but kind of doubt it. Do you have any plans of heading up to the bomb party in Chehalis this weekend. I thought it would be fun to go up there to meet some people, but again I am not sure if I will have time to do so.

Thanks for the help

Joe

Just my . 02 worth. . I had BFG 315's on mine for 35,000 miles, had to have 3 of them replaced at various intervals for sidewall problems. I didn't like the feel towing, loved the look tho! I just switched to 19. 5's and I wish it would have been my first choice! The ride is much better, and I feel safer with the big trailer hooked up!

The 35" Toyo's are an E Rated tire with a 3600 lb load rating. Where the BFG 315's are only a D Rated tire. I know they are very popular but they just look soft. I thought about running those, but after running the current set of D Rated tires I have now, I won't do that again. If I towed a lot I may consider the 19. 5's, but for what I do now it is not worth the cost.

I agree, the BFG's are a D tire, I too considered the Toyo's. My Weekend Warrior is just too heavy and I needed the rating on the 19. 5's. My tire guy was actually more worried about me running the Toyo's than I was! Glad he's looking out for me!

Joe, Banks is the weekend of OCT 24th, I'll be in Ilwalco this Saturday, the games are in the AM and I will be working nights through the weekend so I won't be able to make it to the Bomb party. I had hoped to make this one. As far as the 5th wheel goes, there are a lot of them that are made for 4X4 trucks and should work out fine.

Bob

Here's a thought. Why compromise? Have both the 285s and 35". Use the 285's or even stock for most things and the 35" for when you need. That is a little more practical, and you avoid the economy and power loss for most driving applications.

What about 305's

I was wondering if no one here has run or even considered the BFG AT's in the 305. If I remeber right they are an E rated tire and you get the compromise of 33"
