Need to know location of G56 Part # on case to check od ratios!

I have a yard I'm talking too in order to buy a G56 trans. They are telling me its from a '07 with the 6. 7 diesel. The #s they list are A9712610501... and some other small groups under that, but no AE in there for the . 74 od. And no AD for the . 79 OD. . Where are perople checking their Od ratios via the part #s????? . . The yard tech told me in from of the A in the part # was the dailmerchryster /mercedes logo... I know if its from a 6. 7L, then it should be the . 74 OD. . but before I spend the $ I want to find out for sure. .

Also I asked them to check for the last two letters after the bar code on the right side of the case. They said this transmission has no stickers or any bar codes only the metal tag . . ??

Any help out there?

Thanks

Deo

OK... I have been trying unsuccessfully to link a picture of the tag. I too was in question of my '07, 5. 9 thinking it didn't have the later ratios. Anyhow... Look on the GEAR CARRIER part of the trans and you will find a bar coded White sticky tag on the trans. Reading from the BOTTOM of the trans up, The SECOND barcoded row will have the letter sufixes at the end of the numbers.

EXAMPLE that was on the picture: P52104714AE. Remember, this tag is NOT on the trans main case but on the gear carrier part of the trans.

Gear carrier? Is that the tail shaft or the top shifter portion?. . Supposedly no bar codes on this trans I'm checking out,, its a new take out - zero miles supposedly. . mummn if you want email me the pic and I'll host it on the web for you and post it in this thread.

My email is -- email address removed --

Thanks

See if this works... . It DID!!! I guess the one remaining brain cell woke up!
The gear carrier is the case part that is attached between the MAIN Trans case and the TAIL shaft housing. If this is a take out trans it should have this tag on it. This tag will be to the REAR of the METAL tag on the trans.

so besides a barcode no one has a way to get teh ratio from the serial #?

It should have the good gearing in it because it is from a 6. 7 L Truck.

Thanks

I can look at the serial number on my LATE 5. 9 G-56 with the . 74 6th and post it for you. It sounds like you DID get the late ratios. Did this place have more of these? Or was this from a wreck? How much are thay getting?
I don't see the metal serial number plate on the right side of the trans.

The #'s were all stamped into the case no rivited tag and no bar codes. . I can try to take a pic of the locations. This place didn't have any more of them. They told me there was some story to go with this truck, but the man who knew it was not at the shop that day. I'll have to call em back and try to get the scoop. I imagine maybe a rail car accident or transport accident. . not sure what other reasons you would part out a brand new zero mile 6. 7 truck?. . If you check Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. . you can see the different yards around the county and canada with them. . it was $1800, then $500 core charge and $150 shipping to ny from indiana. . so $2450 for new trans. . not too bad. . I figured if I did the full quad 4x4 rebuilt on a 4500 or boughta 5600 it would be similar. . so I decided to get the newer trans.

Forrest - the late 5. 9s had the better gearing aand th e6. 7s were supposed to have it too. . most people have posted dec 06 build dates with the new gearing. . the old gearing had a. 79 6th gear and a6 something first gear the new gearing is . 74 6th and 5 something first gear...

Thanks

You will be happy with the G56. It is a bit "NOTCHY" when new and when it is cold. I have 3,000mi on mine and it is now only a bit stiff when cold. Warm it is SWEET! This is coming from a guy that said "I'll NEVER buy a stick in a Dodge"
30 years driving old UPS trucks kinda burned me out on sticks... . My '01. 5 was a built DTT. It was stout but I still didn't like it for towing. TOO big a gap between 3rd lock and 4th OD lockup. Hauled "A" when you put your foot into it!!
