Sounds like the TPS needs to be adjusted or cleaned or both. That will dictate to the transmission the line pressure. Also the TV cable may need adjusting for the different power bands. If you use less and less throttle with power enhancements, the transmission never sees WOT and the shift points will be off. Getting that stuff adjusted will help the shifting.

As far as take off power, that shouldn't be an issue. Its all just as has been described with adjusting the AFC position, spring rate (Starwheel) and the zero boost stop. The AFC spring kit is more tailored for the 215 pump, I have one. Most of the auto pumps have soft enough springs to be fully adjustable.

Lil Dog, no the trans moves from 1-2 then 2-1 then maybe from 2-3 then it gets stuck in first for a while. I have a Snap-on scanner that will be on the truck tonight to see what the computer is seeing.

Lil Dog, the TPS has been handled, have adjusted the tv cable as per Daves' instruction and every way in between. Low power situation has been addressed. Just battling the trans now, the problem is in the truck not in the trans as I actually swapped this trans from my 96 (which functioned perfectly) and the problem appeared in the 97.

Going to adjust the forward band on my wifes 99 tonight as it is getting upset at all of the attention the 97 is getting and now is performing its' own version of erratic shifts.

Has the trans been giving you trouble since you did the swap or recently?

Even though there should not be much difference maybe the 96 trans is not compatible with a 97 PCM.

Missouri, the transmission has been acting up off and on since the swap. I drove the truck very little before I changed the transmission, however I seem to remember that the truck shifted a little oddly. I believe that the hunting would not have been as noticeable with a stock trans due to the sloppy convertor and such. Also the stock trans that was moved from the 97 to the 96 operated fine in that truck. I put over 1500 miles on it before I sold it and the current owners are still happy with the truck and have reported no problems.
