Hey all, just got back from my trip to Bay Area. Good time had by all! Anywho, just have to say what a kick in the pants it was to drive the truck down at sea level for a change. First time I have had it anywhere lower than 3,500 feet. Oh my gosh!!!! Spoolup is practically instant!! I swear it had like 1 lbs of boost at idle!! With the box cranked to 63% and stage 3 injectors hardly any smoke!

If I lived out there I would totally be running a biiiggg turbo like an HX50!!

Your Truck loves air!!!

Jared... Welcome to the world of AIR!! Us highlanders really don't know what our trucks are capable of doing until you get down & dirty in the lowlander world!!:D :D I notice a huge difference in power and performance when I travel farther west starting in Las Vegas to the California coast and up to Oregon and Washington area. I didn't know what a burn-out was until I got lower. .    Air has it advantages, mountains is the place to live. . Oo. Oo. Oo.

I grew up in southern Utah around 5500 ft elevation, I don't notice much difference in the truck but the 450 hp 440 in my satellite feels like it gains 2 cylinders down here. Your right about the mountains, In my experience its a lot easier to compensate for altitude than attitude;)

Well, I'll give you yet one more reason NOT to move to Kalifornia. I just sent in my annual truck registration. Since mine is due in late September, even though our wonderful governor just repealed the reduction of the VLF (Vehicle Licensing Fee), it is not affective until later in the year, so my cost this year, with the REDUCED fees was still $398  If the fee structure remains high next year, my registration cost will be back to $700 a year next year... And I have a 2001. I noticed you have a 2002, so yours would be as bad or worse...

My dad and I are going hunting in north-eastern Utah in October, in the Vernal area, so I'll get to see how bad my truck will do at high altitude. I've driven over the Sierras to Lake Tahoe many times, which is 7200+ feet, but that's just for a few minutes while going up and over.

When the truck was only 2 weeks old, and still bone stock, I drove it up through SLC on the way to hunt in Grand Teton National Park and didn't really notice much difference, but like I said, it was still stock.

Shoot I'll take $400 for sure. Just got my renewal in the mail the other day... ... ..... $694 for a 1 year old vehicle!!

Isn't that spool up awesome? Last weekend we went to Bismark, which I'm told is around 1500 ft. I couldn't believe the difference:D :D .

On the registration note, mine also recently showed up, $475:--)

It was Sweet Matt!! I got into San Jose on 101 and decided to turn on the box for the first time on the trip. 63% on drag mode and stage 3 injectors I went from my Usuall Black Cloud of Death to a nicy thin hazy smoke! One downside is I need to ditch the bolt in the wastegate and get a valve for it. I could peg mid 40's PSI before I could take my foot out of it... . poor turbo!:D At idle in gear at a stoplight my FMS was showing . 4-. 5 lbs of boost. Dont know if it is dead accurate but thought it was pretty cool :--)

jarandol, I am at 5500' and over the Labor Day weekend, I went to Dallas, Tx and was as amazed as you were. At 900' elevation, it was hard to not put the "pedal to the metal"

I have not even put injectors in yet, and still have to be careful leaving a stoplight at this elevation. But at 900', clean!

Its awesome aint it?!! I am ready to go back just for that reason. We are headed there at Christmas time to see the wifes family again. I am thinking of driving instead of flying. Hopefully by then I will have a big honkin turbo!!
