PRout, when we find the Donaldson muffler and hangers, maybe we can meet up and get them done @ the same time?
Follow-up: cArNiVaL, MRiley, All, I ended up taking the 51" Donaldson muffler (ref'd in post #13) to a muffler shop in Long Beach to be installed. VERY happy with the results. .

Took it to the shop because due to my truck being a short-bed, it was too tight of a fit to be clamped in place. It needed to be welded in along with the hangers being customized to keep the stock rubber mounts. The work cost 50 bucks, but was worth it. The guy did a nice job welding on the hangers and really "squeezed" it in there. Still just enough clearance to be a nice job. Long bed trucks could probably get away with just being clamped in place, might still need some hanger re-work.

The only drawback is it is not a stainless steel muffler, so it kind of defeats the purpose of having a SS exhaust system, except that just the muffler can be replaced again (by a welder) if & when it rusts through.

Overall sound IMO is excellent. Not sure if it is as quiet as stock since its been so long since I've heard mine stock, but it still has a good tone, but best of all its pretty quiet and NO DRONE at all. Hardly any difference in egts as well. Recommended. Let me know if you need the name of the place & guy that did the work. .

Also, I have 4 new band clamps still in the packaging along with a SS Banks Monster muffler (about 300 miles old) if anyone is interested.

I like the straight pipe in sound and performance. I just need to quite it down a little. Take the edge off. If it were up to me I wouldn't make any changes I'm just tired of the local PD. Magna flow? Donaldson? Honestly I worry that the donaldson might be too quite for my taste. Sounds like it will be just hair more than stock? A big change comming from wide open. What about EGT's and spool up? I don't want to loose what I gained by going striaght pipe.

See my post above, No change in EGTs or spool from a strait pipe. I put one on my 3rd gen to cut the drone. Made the 3rd gen sound better than strait piped. Your in AZ pm me and we can meet up so you can hear it. I PROMISE if you like the strait pipe and just need to take the "edge" off you will like that muffler.

I can still bust my wife for WOT gear grabin when she hits the blacktop, 2 miles away ;) You wont do that with the Donaldson.

Autoanything.com and I think it was about 80 bucks

DLane,

Thanks for the invite. I live up in Flag so it might be a while before I find my way over to your area but I do appreciate the offer. I've been looking at the Magna and thought it looked like it might be the answer. Where did you get yours from? Some of the internet prices are a bit crazy.

FYI - The 14" SS Magnaflow that I recently added to my system went for 200. 00 on the Magnaflow website. I paid 120. 00 at a local shop for it (same one).

Muffler logic or lack of.

I've got a Shuttleworth HD diesel muffler on mine. Splices perfectly in-line. No drone and you can converse with your passenger without shouting ,a novel concept. Part# D13-4040. Noise does not equal performance. I'm a victim of the 70's and 80's rock concerts and don't need any competition.
