Need to remove Alt Whine in CB

Finished installing MB mount, CB and setting swr's. Now when I start engine I have the alternator whining :{ in the CB speaker #@$%!



How do I filter the alternator to get rid of the alt noise

Where did you go for power? I used the power seat circuit as I didn't have power seats. No noise on mine.

the cig lighters generaly have a poor ground. the best thing to do is to run a + and - lead straight to the battery. Make sure you fuse each. (yes even the negative, if you loose a ground on something else in the truck and it decides to make the ground through your antena/cb you can have a nice fire)

That usually either completely kills it, or atleast makes it somewhat better.



If that doesnt work, for a few bucks they sell a filter at Radio Shack and such. It's an LC network made just for the alternator wine. Put the filter as close to the CB as possible.



Also, does the antena have a good ground?

Noise

I ran a wire from the PDC and was getting a lot of noise from the VP-44. I put a Radio shack filter in the power supply at the radio and solved the problem. bg

Check the TSB's. there was one I remember that delt with noise on CB's and the like. It said the buzz was not from the alternator but the solenoids in the VP44.



The fix was for the dealer to install a filter (P/N was in TSB) Why buy one at Radio Shack if the dealer will give you one?

radio mount a MB bracket with radio chassis grounded to seat frame. B+ from cigar lighter, B- chassis ground dash. Ant. ground fender. I will check the TSB's but my dealer does not do TSB's for free. Not even the child seat anchors #@$%!

We used to run a piece of RG58 coax from the radio to the battery for power.

CB Noise

#1 power direct from the battery, run a seperate ground as well, coax does work well for this especialy with a gasser and spark ignition.

#2 if you are using a remote speaker, try unplugging it and see if the noise goes away, the speaker cable can sometimes back feed noise into the radio amplifier section.

#3 if your SWR is below 2-3 you should not have an antenna ground problem, if it's above 3 you either have a bad ground or no antenna.

#4 you can add an alternator filter, it's just a large capacitor that you connect to the alternator output. Should be available from just about car audio store.

#5 best to turn off your cb radio before starting the engine.

#6 check any small motors that may be running when the engine is running, like the heater fan etc.
