What makes you think entertainers are going to take a pay cut. Revenues in baseball, football and basketball are at all time highs. Hockey not so much.
Who actually pays entertainer's salaries? People who buy tickets, that's who. When there's less money available to buy tickets, something has to give. "Wants" will suffer before "needs".

So it looks like supply is up and demand is down. Hmmmmm, I wonder why prices aren't going down??? Somebody is really taking it to us. I don't know who it is, but I'd like to!

There's no shortage of oil !

The US gets the most oil from Canada, Saudi Arabia is 2nd.

~

With the declining US economy and US dollar, major investors (& banks)

are putting lots of money into commodities, driving the price up.

(Should be about $50. per barrel)

~

The price of oil will probably increase when the fed cuts the prime rate again.

~

Why should the oil companies care?

~

Politicians -SHOULD- care . . . but, even the Commander in Chief didn't

have a clue as to the price of gasoline - - but I bet he knew that the

wealthy were donating 20K each to a recent fundraiser.

Cattletrkr you make money with your truck, most don't. So all those toy haulers and 5ers are really just expensive wants which then makes the truck a want. I am guessing people will give up their wants that have monthly payment before they give up "dinner and a movie", or an afternoon at the ball park. I live near Detroit, and we've had the worst economy in the nation for the last 4-5yrs. Guess what? All 4 pro sports teams sell out almost every game.

That's kinda what I'm guess the opposite will happen. At least short term anyway. Give up the things that are easier to give up, take the beating on the big toys only when yu have to.

Although I am a big sports fan myself, I might be underestimating the loyalty many fans have.

In my small business the fuel costs have doubled in all the goods that I need to run the business. Is this just due to fuel costs? I 'm TRYING to run a business that would be considered to be luxury service and if I were to double the price I would be looking for a job and out of business. I bought my first Turbo Diesel in April of 2000 the price was $1. 68 per gallon now in March of 2008 it's $4. 09 per gallon. What really gets my boiling is the people that will try and compare our fuel price to those of Europe. YES, there fuel cost is now only slightly higher than ours BUT they also have FREE health care mandated sick days and 1 month vacations, that are paid for by fuel taxes. We must get the Government to get these fuel profits to be Reinvested NOT put billons in there pockets. TAX the S--t out of them to help pay for sociel programs or build up the abillity to produce more and refine more and explore more. the places to put there money is there. With out hitting tem in the wallet it will never happen.

WHEN you vote for president write in either your own name or NO OF THE ABOVE lets send all of them a real statement!!!

As HBarlow says, its only for the few who read quietly and get it that the pain of explanation is worth it...

What do you think is going to happen to the price of fuel when you have the s--t taxed out of them? Here's a clue... the tax increase gets passed on to YOU! how? by higher fuel prices! That will show them.

The oil companies profit though in the billions, is still between 10 and 20% just like any other business. Why should their profits be taken and not yours? How about the government tells Sweeda its time to start investing his business profit into wind energy? Thats not your business, why should you have to invest your profit in it? Wind energy isnt the oil business industry either, wind energy is the business of some other Capitolist who wants to take advantage of a new market.

I am totally for wind, solar and any other thing that will take us away from oil, it is just not the business of you or big oil to fund it with your profits. I know alot of people are angry but you have to think things out, the government involved in ANYTHING has solved NOTHING, never has, never will. The last thing we need is more social programs paid for with oil profits, you think your complaining now, be careful what you wish for.

Just to make things seem a little worse. I bought my 1st CTD in May '01. At some point since then, I know I pumped in $0. 999/gal fuel. Not often and not enough, but I have done it. The guy I bought the business from raised his rates once in 12-13 years. I have raised my 2-3 times already and probably will again soon.

Join 'em, if you can't beat 'em

If fuel companies are making so much money off of the increased price of oil,

BUY THEIR STOCK!

I guess when we get down to it guys we live in a world of ever shrinking natural resources and ever growing population. Every person in this world wants to have nicer things, eat better, more financial security, etc... etc. . and every one of them has the right to those desires. So in essence we have a situation where resources simply wont meet desires. Some people are going to do without. That trend can't help but continue.

I find it hard to believe that the oil companies are only doing 10-20% profit, I haven't researched it so I really don't know, but I seem to recall lots of media coverage of "record oil profits", not average. I have no problem with record profits, but oil is not like TV's or Victoria Secrets $60 panties it's a commodity that is absolutely fundamental to life as we know it.

I think the final answer is that life as we know it will change drastically in the next 20yrs. Perhaps not for everyone, but the days of a blue collar guy pulling 60 grand and bennies and going "up north" for the weekend with the 5er and quads/boat/your favorite toy are coming to a close. Gotta go time for another beer, it is St. Patty's day!!

What's In a Barrel of Oil?

I did some on-line research about what's in a barrel (BBL) of oil. I came up with the following.

A standard barrel of light sweet crude is exactly 42 gallons. During the refining process, with the addition of other petroleum distilates, that goes up to 48. 43 gallons. Here's the best breakdown that I could get:

51. 4% or 24. 9 gallons for gasoline

15. 3% or 7. 4 gallons for fuel oil

12. 3% or 6. 0 gallons for jet fuel

21. 0% or 10. 13 gallons for other petroleum products.

I'd guess that those figures are an average among the oil producers and the given times of the year.

But think about the demand for the 7. 4 gallons of fuel oil that our #2 diesel comes from. All the homes and businesses in the U. S. A. that are heating with oil; all the commercial diesel trucks and buses on the road; every diesel locomotive on every railroad and us. Basically its the old law of supply and demand. Demand High & Supply Low = High Prices at the pump.

And don't think that all those commercial users are paying what we pay at the pump. They all buy in bulk and get far better rates than we do.

Here's some thoughts on why the cost of a BBL of oil is so high. I think that some factors include, the very high U. S. debt overseas (weak dollar), greed (oh yeah, OPEC has to get it's pound of flesh), fear (just watch what happens to the cost of BBL when a refinery fire happens) and again, high demand for that BBL of oil. India and China are direct competitors for the same BBL of oil that we go after. All that dickering and bargaining drives the price up.

If you really want a rant, here's one from me.

I think that the French sit over there in Europe and laugh down their noses at us. 80% of their electrical power grid is supplied by nuclear energy. Yet we sit here and allow our elected politicians to be guided by a group of ecological idiots that wouldn't have the brains to pour sand out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel.

Do you think for one minute that if Germany, France, England, China or India owned Alaska and the ANWR that they wouldn't be up there right now drilling for that oil and using it for their own country. But, the tree huggers and bunny lovers in the country have got our politicians scared stiff to even suggest tapping that vast reserve of oil.

Cuba is selling drilling rights to the Chinese to drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Again the EcoIdiots have that blocked too.

When the hell is this going to stop. I'll tell you when. We have an election comming up in 2008. Start writing letters to those congressmen and senators that are up for election. Tell them that you are damn sick and tired of taking crap from the Enviroterrorists and you want them to pass a sensible energy policy for this country that the average American can live with. Do it or we won't vote for you.

Boy do I feel better.

What do you mean you don't know who is sticking it to us? You all have your head in the sand! I hope that none of you have kids in Iraq or Afganastan, because they're fighting and dieing for mega, muti national corperations with there own agenda.

So who is it then? Are you saying it is the big corporations and that the government and the investors and the foreign countires have nothing to do with it? Despite the attacking nature of your response, you really gave no info at all. Thanks.

Schrowang:

That is the absolute best post on the subject and possibly the only one that showed any sign of intelligent life I have read. I congratulate you for doing the research and posting it.

Would you consider starting a new thread and posting it again under it's own title, the same title you used on your reply? I would like for it to be more visible and more people to read it.

You and I both know that some will not understand what you wrote or refuse to accept it and still blame the oil companies but there are always many who silently read these posts. Some, the one whose brains are working normally, will read it and recognize that you wrote something that makes good sense.

Thanks again.
