What is the color of the powered wire of the high beam switch? Where is a good place to access and splice into it for an accessory lighting switch?

Thanks for the help.

What are you trying to do with this wire? For model years 2000 and 2001, if you are looking for a source of 12 volts when the high beams are activated you won't find it. The switch provides a ground to complete a circuit through the high-beam filament. The switch does not provide 12 volts to the lamp.

I have driving lamps that light with my high beams on my model year 2000. I have no way to select high beams without driving lamps, although it shouldn't take too much more wiring if I want to add that feature.

I brought a fused, 10 gauge wire from the battery to a 30 amp relay. This source of 12 volts is connected to one side of both the trigger coil and the switch in the relay. The other side of the switch is wired to the driving lamps. The other side of the trigger coil is connected to the switched ground—the source of ground when high beams are selected—a red with orange tracer 20 gauge wire that you can find at each headlamp.

Thomas thanks for the info. I decided to bypass the high beam selector switch and go with the toggle to simplify things.

lights

i am getting ready to rewire the lights on my sport. i was pretty aggravated when i found out that the ground was switched instead of the 12v+. i plan to wire relays on each side for both the high and low beams. i'll wire it so that both filaments of the low beam lights will be on on high beam. also will use at least 12 ga wire to feed the lights--18-20 ga wire to the headlights???gimme a break!!!waiting for the diodes to go in the trigger line between the high and low beam relays to prevent the low beams back feeding and lighting the high beams when on low beams. gives me the chance to add an after market daytime running light module also. should make the lights appreciably brighter--gotta be a significant voltage drop with oem wiring. this setup should protect the fragile headlight switch also--since it will only have to ground the relays--relatively low amps to trigger the relays. sorry i got so long winded... ... ..... :(

Adjusted and tried out the new lights last night. The difference is amazing! Now I want more lights. Next is decent back-up lighting. :)

lights

did most of the rewiring today, after all. decided against relays on both sides, went with 30 amp fuses and relays for each the high and low beams. haven't added the relay to liight the low beam half of the 9004's yet. they looked brighter when i finished but it was still daylight. i'll see what they look like on the way to the office in the morning at 0-dark:30. :)
