Assistance, please! Just got an electric tailgate lock- 55 bucks with freight. Went in easily, but the directions were off a bit here and there- case in point, ID of the door lock wires! anyone know where and which these are? Thanks in advance, and my tailgate is unlocked if you wanna take my jumper cables till then!

Not sure if the wiring is going to help you. The driver door switch and key cylinder uses a MUX voltage to tell the cluster (MIC) when the command is for lock or unlock. The MIC reads the mux voltage and sends the lock or unlock command to the door lock motor. Depending on how the tailgate lock works will determine if you can hook it up. You can't wire anything into the mux switch, because the MIC won't be able to tell what the command is, and might set a fault. You might be able to use the lock/unlock for the motor, if it does not draw too much current. Excessive current will fry the instrument cluster. Worst case is you might have to wire in a couple of relays to make it work, and not smoke the cluster.

The lock motor is actuated by the MIC by applying voltage to one side of the motor, while grounding the other side. It reverses the voltage and ground to unlock.

All that being said, the wires are the following colors.

MUX wire on drivers switch, White with dark green tracer

Drivers unlock motor, dark blue

Drivers lock motor, tan with pink tracer

All the wires go through the C305 connector as it passes through the body from the door.

Thanks- here is what the seller said

Bulldogsecurity.com sold this unit, and has pretty good tech support- the directions in the package had the wrong bolt and Torks screw size, and the WRONG wiring info, but the website and the actual techie (who called me back within 15 minutes) had some answers.

He said to wire BOTH the lock and unlock wire in the tailgate lock to the one Green with white chaser wire in the kick panel. Intuitively, it makes more sense to wire to the lock/unlock motors. I will let you know what smokes/blows up/ quits working.

Thanks for your help!

Success!!

You, sir, are a genius! I called back to the good (but dumb) folks at Bulldog, and got a not much better answer than the first. They didn't know the right wiring codes, but YOU did! I found them in the door, traced them into the kick panel, and voila, the tailgate lock works! It doesn't draw enough juice to smoke anything, just fires to lock and fires to unlock.

Anyway, the tailgate now locks with the keyless entry. I recommend Bulldog Security for low price on a pretty good lock, but a TDR subscription if you want to wire the danged thing in!!

Thanks again for your help.
