Ohio Truck Pulls and/or Drag Race schedule

CrewCabdiesel, True, I'm dumb for having a truck payment bigger than some people's house payments, and it may be a second generation truck, but I'm partial to all Dodges. I think you'll find a lot of us are... . I guarantee you that Thunder in Muncie is not all about new trucks. Your truck will create quite a lot of attention when you bring it. Dave's Diesel in Muncie, last year's primary event sponsor/host, is fully equipped for first gen parts & service, as Eric just said. You'll enjoy getting aquainted with the mechanics, the pump technician, and the owners. This event is huge, not to be missed, and we're all looking forward to meeting you and seeing your truck ! I can't speak for the vendors, but know now that you've brought up the subject, Eric will address it. It would be good if we had some legitimate "tech-talks" from experienced people like Piers, on the first gen trucks and their engines, not just parts on display.

With the new common-rail fuel injection coming out in 2003, and possibly increasing B. O. M. B. ing costs too much, or making it impossible to B. O. M. B. one, many of us that work on our own trucks will be looking into buying an older Cummins Ram for a second truck, either to pull/race, or use to keep the miles off the new one. Or in my case, get one for my son. So I really, really am interested in first gens, and early second gens. I'm glad you brought out this point. The vendors need to be reminded of the vast market opportunity the older trucks present.

Thunder in Muncie is for all diesel nuts, whether they are driving old, new, custom, foreign or alternate brands. Heck. . I think it would be fun to see some diesel VW buses there. Come on out CrewCabDiesel and enjoy the festivities even if you don't get to buy something. Part of the greatness of these events is the camaraderie and new found friendships.

Eric, do you know an auctioneer? What do you think of having an auction rather than a swap meet? If all the vendors put something into the auction and the rest of us bring our unneeded accessories there could be plenty to sell. Auctions are fun!

What are the features of the truck wash this year?

Anyone know some of those guys who display stationary engines? I'm sure there are some diesel setups out there that would be fun to check out. How about an old coal dust engine?

I hope the guy with the model trains shows up again. I really wish I was there last year, just to see that.

Another thing I'd like to see as a feature, is someone with a train/air horn collection. It would be cool to have the horns trumpeting out to announce special events, etc.

Doc

Eric,

I was thinking about last years event and some activities for the kids might be really good. I think this is a family oriented event (or is it). One of those jumping domes would keep my kids happy for a long time, or something like that. I don't think they are really expensive (like $200 for the day) and I am sure a nominal admission would not be a problem and it would cover the cost.

Magicians are fun to have too.

I like Doc's aution idea, but I would like to see a little bigger swap meet.

I got to the track a little late last year, but I seen no signs of any sort of swap meet. I can't believe that nobody had anything to trade/sell.

-Ryan

Ditto on the stuff for kids, I got an 8 year old grease monkey:D :D Not to mention his 4 year old brother, both have been helping with my trucks since they been in diapers:eek: .

Oops, forgot again!

Yea, I was very disappointed with the swap meet, but as I asked everyone who knew about it, they all came to look, not sell. I like the idea of the auction, but if people don't bring stuff this time, it'll cost me.....

WMDH is hosting a pedal pull, and I apologize about leaving that out. I will post rules, etc. later, but I think they go by age or weight. I also am checking out the prices for other children's things to keep them busy. Little things will help, to keep my diesel brothers free to enjoy the festivities!

How much stuff will be going on Sunday? We have a race that Saturday near Memphis and have been thinking about driving up Sat. night and spend the day Sunday.

Eric, Maybe the vendors will throw a few left over things into the auction, if the auction is held Sunday afternoon. I wouldn't object to people bringing along some non-truck related items to bulster the list of items to auction. Like machinery, chainsaws and tools, etc.

I'll check with my brother in law, a Snapon Dealer, and see if he wants to auction off the trade-in tool boxes that he's sitting on. Also, the auctioneer might have some stuff to bring along, from a small estate or something.

Doc

Jim,

hey bud, there will be vendors, a big-rig show-n-shine, and diesel drag race. Doc and I are discussing a diesel parts auction. It should be alot of fun, lots of fast trucks!

I watched some lawn tractor racing the other night on Speedvision, what class do you run? It's about 9 hour drive from Memphis. Come up and see us!

Eric

Sounds good, we're looking forward to it.

I run in the A/P class and my wife runs in IMOW. We showed up on some of the tv races, but mostly they show the faster classes - F/X & B/P.

?????

Eric,

Is there going to be some one there bombing trucks, like daves diesel, and what is the cost to get in, and what is the schedule for sat or is there eney way you could put the whole schedule on here for other people??? Thanks Justin

P. S truck is getting re-painted step by step and injectors comming for the summer for pulls, see aaa:D

Justin, I am in the planning stages, I will give more information when it becomes available. I know you haven't been to a rally, so get ready to be amazed! Dave's is a host for the Saturday portion of Thunder in Muncie.

R.V.'s

Hope this isn't a stupid question but is there any place there where you can camp? I have a 5'er and would like to camp if I attend. Thanks

Camping

I can't make any promises as of yet. The Lion's Club is getting sued because of an accident two years ago and I am waiting to find out how that will affect my scheduling. Big Oak Park is where most stayed last year. It is a fantastic park and only 2 miles from the Park and 10 miles from the track. I apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause for you, Muncie only has one RV park.

The Saturday's events is in a little town called Gaston, NW of Muncie. Sunday is at the Muncie Dragway in NE Muncie.

How about a group deal on the camp ground ? Id bet they would rather keep us all in the same area of the camp ground, less likely to have someone b*tch about diesel fumes and the sound of a Cummins:D  :D  . Maybe a discount for early pre-payment ?

group thing

They do give a group discount and shared that with anyone that mentioned Thunder in Muncie. I hope that some of those that stayed there can help out with how great the campground folks were.

The people at the camground were really nice.

I the campground was clean and pleasant but its not a 'Yogi Bear'.

Of course they don't charge Yogi Bear rates.

Dennis

There will be a web page soon, that will have all the campground and hotel information on it. I guess I'd better get my reservations before the web comes out - LOL

Also the web site will show information about vendors, events, etc.
