Anyone take the LFI-I class? Judicious Use Of Deadly Force

DaimlerChrysler CEO to leave, stock leaps

A friend has a wireless 802. 11g router that he has a repeater for to extend the range. He claims he bought it for $100 and extends his WAN router all over his property now.

Any suggestions on where to buy one of these devices from? I need to expand my routers range too.

Make sure you use passwords to get on the wireless network. Otherwise you'll be wondering why your network is so slow and who all those geeky looking people are parked next to your property with their lap tops :D

Password schmassword. I, uh, know a guy that has an app that can sniff wireless traffic and grab the WEP key and be on the network in less than 10 minutes. MAC filtering is a bit better, but there are apps to spoof that as well. Disabling the SSID broadcast is also a really good idea, but once traffic is flowing that can be grabbed as well. And with a simple directional antenna made from a Pringles can, you don't really need to be that close.

Bottom line, a wireless network, especially based on 802. 11 b or g, is not secure at all. The best thing you can do is try to keep the signal limited to your house.
