I think I'd contact Source Automotive which is near you. If they can't do it they'll certainly know someone who can.

Well I think I found a builder...I'm thinking 03/04 pistons, stage 2 cam, balancing everything, lower the compression a bit. Maybe some head work? Anything else?

Not to stray off topic, but would you discuss the maintenance folder on that engine? Injector life, major components, etc? Filtration? Maintenance habits?
And yes, congrats. Almost made a mil.

Well at about 160K I lost an injector and melted a piston. So I rebuilt it myself with new injectors,Htt 62/13,Fass 150 proceeded to drive the wheels off it. So oil changes every 10/12K depending on my trips.I also run a FS-2500 oil by-pass setup filter changed every 20/24K depending on my trips. Injectors every 250K or so always new no rebuilds.Fass filter changed every 20/24K. This last go around I went with BB1's love the power and mileage just a bit smoky. I wanted to dyno tune it but didn't want to subject my motor to the dyno because of the mileage on the motor at that time. The new motor will be dyno tuned for maximum mileage towing. I get 70K plus on tires, transmissions last around 250K always built I service them every 20/25K. First transfercase went 550K fluid changed every 20/25K,still on the original frontend and rearend fluid changed every 30/35K. I'm running freespin hubs upfront now I repack the bearings every 60/70K. I'm still on the original Cp-3 933K...I tow 99% of the time Grossing about 20K. I typically pull grades at 60mph. I'll let my temps get up to 1200deg as I slow down to 60ish mph then I come out of OD and run the grade at 60mph in drive at 1050deg. I went 500K on my last turbo I'm going to have it gone through so everything is fresh. I average right at 12mpg(10K mile average not just 1 tank) towing at 67/68mph. Hope that answers your questions if not fire away.

I love the FS-2500 I have on my Jeep CRD. The oil is so much slipperier without all that soot. I haven't put one on my current truck yet (dang APPS mounted under the air horn), so I have been using spin-on filters with built-in bypass filtration, which seems to be just as good.

Anyway, any idea as to how the stars aligned to cause your most recent misfortune?

And, good luck with your ongoing rebuild. It's great to see these motors rack up so many miles.

Not really sure what happen yet guessing I lost the rings in a cyl. It was on the last leg of my 12K run...I had driven about 250 miles without stopping and as I was cooling down the turbo I noticed a rough idle. The next morning it was really rough at startup...I pulled the filler cap and can see noticeable blow-by which I have never had...hope to know tomorrow as I should have the head off.

Big Twin Diesel in Meridian, Idaho did mine and my dads rebuild. They aren't super close to you but they do great work.

They used QSB 480 03/04 style pistons and I had them put a Hamilton 178/208 cam, pushrods, and 103# valve springs in. I already had a turbo, intake/exh manifold, and ARP head studs. That's all I had done and LOVE the way it runs very the stock motor. My UOA is also MUCH MUCH better than the stock build with the same oil and hp.

That's exactly how dad's broken ring unfolded.

What do you run for tuning?

Thanks for the input. Source Automotive gave me a recommendation here in Portland. Hoping to get it there tomorrow I'm fighting the fan at the moment. I always ran on level 3 before the BB1's it was a bit smoky when I changed injectors so per Bill at Source we went to level 1 and changed a few settings. I don't remember what they were but my mileage went up almost 1mpg. Soon as I get it back together the plan is to have Source Dyno tune it.

I have to say I'm shocked how well the truck has held up. The interior looks as good as any truck with a 100K on it. I put a National air ride seat in about 650K ago...best mod I've made to my truck. The AC setup in these trucks suck...LOL I've had a few issues with the TIPM had to replace the ECM a couple of years ago due to a miss. The truck is still quite solid so I decided to rebuild and keep running it. Originally the goal was a Mil then replace but I'm kind of excited about building the new motor might have to go for 2 mil...LOL Also EMS hub kit.

Well just as I thought looks like a broken ring...while she is a bit black inside I'm actually surprised how everything looks inside. I could still see the cross hatching on most of the cylinders kind of looks like another cylinder may have lost a ring also kinda hard to tell at this point. But we will make it better and breath new life back into her.

OK quick update. Truck is up and running and I'm back in love with my truck. It pulls right off idle and runs smooth as glass. Haven't put a ton of miles on it yet but leaving this weekend for the first good run. Kind of excited to see how she does out on the road. My first tank of fuel with no towing was 20.2mpg best I ever did not towing before was 18.7mpg all hand calculated.
