Does anyone know what size the transmission to engine bolts are? I was gonna get some studs to align it properly n make it easier to get the input shaft back into clutch..... are they still the M12x 1. 75? I beileve thats what they were in my '98..... been about 4 years since I changed a clutch out. :-laf

Thanks,

Joe

If you think that your transmission is noisy now, just wait until you get rid of the DMF. Eventually, you should get used to the noise. Thats just the nature of the beast.

I've run a 3850 DD and an Iron Giant in my old '98, they were hardly as noisy as everyone makes them out to be. They were actually quite smooth to drive on and off-road. I have a good ear for things that sound out of wack and I can take a lot of "noise" in the cab but when my daily driver is nice n quiet for 76K miles and suddenly the popular problematic DMF factory clutch starts making abnormal noises, I can't get used to that.

Got my SBC 3250 Street DD ordered, so gonna be tearing into it in probably 2 weeks as soon as a weekend opens up. I will post up my findings as soon as possible.

Thats right! Just changed out my DMF to a solid Perfection flywheel and new clutch. Not only are there new noises, but the dadgum engine sounds completely different at startup! Weird.

Given the design and role of the DMF in reducing "noise, vibration and harshness", that is totally understandable, BUT when I replaced my DMF with the SBC Con-OFE and flywheel, the engine/transmission noises did not change at ALL.

The clutch DID get grabbier at some low rpm shifts, and jerkier at some low rpm situations, but there is absolutely NO more running noise or vibration then with the stock DMF assembly.

Same here on the grabby clutch in reverse and low rpm. Huh!

Input shaft is different from our beloved 5 spd

REMOVAL

NOTE: If input shaft is damaged behind the seal, the transmission must be disassembled and inspected.

Remove transmission from the vehicle.

Measure output shaft end play and record number.

Remove clutch slave cylinder from transmission adapter plate.

Remove front adapter plate bolts (1).

Pry front cover adapter loose.

Hold input shaft while removing adapter (2).

Remove sealant from transmission adapter.

Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces for wear or damage.

Lift counter shaft slightly and remove input shaft (2) from transmission (1).

Remove input shaft bearing (1) with Splitter P-334 (2) and a press.

INSTALLATION

Install new seal from the fluid side with Installer 9366.

Install input shaft bearing (2) on shaft with Installer 6052 and Installer MB-991317 (2).

Install new bearing cup in front adapter with original shim behind cup.

Clean sealing surfaces of the transmission case and adapter plate.

Install new input shaft and adapter plate (without any Mopar Gasket Maker).

Check output shaft end play. It should be the same as measured during the disassemble procedure. If end play is greater than original reading, install a thicker shim. If end play is less than original reading, install a thinner shim.

After the correct shim has been installed, remove the adapter plate and apply Mopar Gasket Maker to the sealing surfaces.

Install adapter and tighten adapter bolts to 34 N·m (25 ft. lbs. ).

Install transmission.

Thanks for that description Bob, that should come in handy pending the inspection of my transmission when I change out clutch... .
