Neutral safety switch getting on my nerves ever since VB swap!

Ever since I did the vb swap, no start in P, only N.

Drop the pan, all is well. Changed switch, still wont start in P. Played with the linkage, no matter what I do, it only starts in N.

I know the switch has a metal tit that runs along the plastic piece on the valve body and allows the truck to start when the metal tit hits metal inlayed on the plastic. Being since the distance between the metal on the plastic piece (on the VB) is set and cant change, if the truck starts in N, it should also start in P.

Any thoughts on this? Bill K, you out there? I guess I have a good theft deturant system for now anyway.

I had this happen to me. When I put the valvebody in. I put on the shift linkage and then the TV linkage and tightened it properly. I forgot to tighten the shift linkage bolt though. Everything functioned properly, but it wouldn't start in P. It would only start in N. I couldn't feel the slop when shifting the lever from inside the cab but it was there. Park worked fine. Have someone shift through the gears inside the cab while you watch for play underneath.

I've seen this before, you'll probably want to remove the pan again and observe the p/n switch and watch exactly where the switch contacts the metal contacts, check in park and neutral. Believe it or not the valve body can be shifted to get an exact fit. Whenever I overhaul one or even loosen the valve body for trans service I do this. Knock on wood - never saw one of mine back, but I have seen this happen.

Check the most obvious stuff first, the n saftey switck as Chris suggested. 2nd, check to see if your reverse lights work,if it starts in neutral and your reverse lights work and the shifter is adjusted correctly, the most likely culprit is bent linkage on the vb inside the pan.

You do not have to remove the vb to fix it, but you do need to remove the pan. It is a tricky proceedure but it can be done.

As far as being broken into, our home has been broken into twice, our vehicles have been broken into a few times, my race car tailer was stolen, it was un-unsured at the time and our new shop was also recently broken into and all our computers were stolen.

Sounds great. Thanks for the help guys. I will have to wait until a couple weekends go by before I will be able to look into it. I have to work this one, and got a family member getting surgery the next. As soon as I get a time frame set up to check it out, I will call a few days in advance to get some advice.
