I've wanted to go explore some old Nevada ghost towns for quite a while. Finally got to check out my first a couple days ago. Went to Delamar, just southwest of Caliente. After seeing the ruins, we kept going south along the power line road, across the Delamar Valley Dry Lake (aka Texas Lake). It was a great little trip.

Anybody found any other good spots in Southern / Central Nevada or close-by worth seeing?

Rhyolite, near Beatty, is pretty amazing and well preserved. It is also on the way to Death Valley, so a spring/fall visit could bundle it in also.

The top of the world

Not a ghost town, White Mountain has a research facility at 14000'asl, Barcroft. They have a open house on Labor Day weekend. Test the cummins at elevation.

Oh yeah, on topic. Laws is a restored town site outside of Bishop.

It not Nevada but not too far from you is Cerro Gordo near Owens lake in the Owens valley off of hwy 136 on the easter slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. They claim its the best preserved ghost next to Bodie. I believe it is privately owned. Its a little over 200 miles from Vegas to Cerro Gordo via Death Valley.
