You can take my STD 94-02 kit and use any of the following: HY30-9,HX35w-12/14, or add a 40 compressor( dodgezilla, nasty nine, etc)

The hy's are good to 550 or so HP. 35s can be pushed to 700 but are really good to 640+/-

Thanks Mark, at the power level I'd be going for a Nasty 9 would be the ticket.

Tell me more about the external wastegate. Is it set up to control boost at a specific level, or drive pressure? What sort of drive pressures would you be seeing at say 45-50psi boost?

I haven't tested this set but the previous sets of HY/HT3B twins experienced 1-4# less drive pressure than boost pressure from ~35 to 60+ psi of boost. ther was a rise in drive pressure around 30psi (just before the wastegate opened) than went away at ~35# (as the gate opened).

The B2 has much better low end response than the HT3B so I am expecting nothing but better results. Initial results (extreme reduction of egts at even low loads) seems to confirm this. Usually as drive pressure rises in respect to the boost pressure there is a telltale rise in EGTs. The older twin sets would occasionally see a 1-200* spike in EGTs as the big turbo spooled. once the gate opened the turbo spooled and drive pressure receded.

The wastegate controlls both boost and drive pressure to some extent. It really has a large effect on midrange pressures (at the gate opening/closing points) the overall drive perssure is going to be determined by both the wastegate and the primary turbo's turbine section.

I hope that helped answer your question.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark sounds good I talked to Will today at ATS and he told me what you wanted to do. Sounds awsome! Just give me a call when you get here and I will bring my truck over and we can start. I would love to help if you don't mind. I have already taken off work. I am a diesel tech so I am not a total retard. I have the turbo, manifold, and oil lines and returns so I am not sure what you are going to bring.

Thanks for the answer Mark. A brief initial spike in drive pressure wouldn't concern me, especially if EGTs or boost haven't risen to high levels yet. An initial spike to get things spooling makes sense, then waste it off to keep things cool.

I hit the ground at ~0800 staurday and leave ~1900 sunday.

Vaughn, glad I could help.

Well talked to clint at ATS and he said we could not work in the shop while all of the people were there. He said to much liability. Sorry I was looking forward to doing that.

I just talked to Craig. He got the boost controller in. He is able to limit boost from 20 to almost 60psi. 40psi gives 1200-1250* egts.

The truck is basically brother-in-law proof now :-laf :-laf

Thanks,

Mark

How does the boost controller work exactly on craigs truck? How does it install? and how do you adjust the boost?

A wastegate is basically a valve attached to a spring and a diaphram. In Craig's case the spring is too strong. The controller is just a 1/4" air tool regulator. by sending a regulated amount of boost to the bottom hole on the wastegate he is weakening the spring until it opens at the appropriate pressure for his target boost level.

He essentially blowing the wastegate open early.

I know what a wastegate is and does. When you said boost controller I was wondering what you are using to regulate the boost to the w/g to open it. I got it now though.

Sorry, I get quesstions about wastegates a lot. It's hard to determine the technical knowledge of folks online. No offense meant :)

hi mark.

speaking of waste gates... did you send me that actuator from the stock 03 turbo.
just reminding ya.

that, and one gasket I am wating on and my twins are ready to bolt up..... elbo mounted pac brake and all.
I have some pictures and ill send soon. I did not cut the b2 compressor housing after all, just bent the ac lines. . and it fit... . like oj 's glove.
