NEW '05 3500 Mexican junk?

I picked up my new '05 3500 QC DRW 48re last night. I have 107 miles on it.

I have the notorious launch shudder coupled with the clunking sound going over sharp jolts. This is UFB. MSRP 47K and it has this crap??? you have got to be kidding me. Do you think that I am going to be putting up with repeated trips to the dealer to sort this out??? No way. I have 3 days to back out of this by law and that is precisely what I am going to do tomorrow, take it back to the dealer.

I will be buying an American made Ford.

F Daimler Chrysler and their launch shuddering, clunking, non camper recommended piece of junk.

Sorry guys, these are the facts.

Best, Bill

So you got a bad one, sorry about that. Why not consider backing out of "that one" and test drive a Dodge you like. They are not all like that. The majority here like em and its my understanding only 1/4 of the Ram owners who are TDR members actually use the site, the rest just want the mag.

Makes you wonder how many Ram owners don't even know about TDR, I can think of a dozen in our little town. Good luck with your 6. 0.

Sorry to hear that, I'd never buy a Ford, ever, ever, ever. I've had family and friends try it because of that low price, but they all said the same thing, "got what I paid for. " I may have paid too much for what I got, but ohh well, it's still worth it. I personally would even wait for the Toyota Diesel in 06 before buying a Ford, American or not, as much as I hate to say it. Even a Duramax, cracking heads and all!

I hate to hear things like that, it sucks when something goes so wrong that people give up on something good all together. Can't you just get another one that wasn't made in Mexico or something? Anything?

Matt and Rmarkey, Thanks for your replies. I am extremely bummed out over this... I will not tolerate spending this kind of money. The fact that these trucks are well known for these defects and the way the dealers run people around over it, is just criminal. There are too many reports of this. . The Ford that I test drove did not have launch shudder, didn't clunk going over bumps, was camper certified and was made in the USA.

Cheers, Bill

Thats a good idea, it may turn out to be something real nice and you sure can't knock Toyota quality.

I thought ALL 2500 & 3500's come from the plant in Mexico. . glad they did a good job on mine!

Drive a GMC, or if you like the front of the Chevy better try that. Same truck. I've scrutinized all three and the Chevys are built really well. Great detail, LOTS of features, alot higher quality. I do love my Cummins, but I think Chev has a better package, maybe not engine, but the entire truck.

But. . did they ever fix the block from cracking on the Isuzu? The pits if its out of warranty, gotta buy a new motor. If I had to drop the bucks on that repair I would transplant a Cummins.

Hey Bill,

Just some FYI on the 6. 0. . this site is for Ford techs that work on them, good reading there, be sure and check out the "Hot List" so you can make sure your new Ford doesn't have any of that stuff going on.

Huh? Where have you ever seen or heard first hand of a Duramax with cracked heads?

Block cracks now? Isuzu? That engine certainly isn't "Isuzu". Joint designed by GM and Isuzu, and built in Ohio by DMAX, Inc.

ALL CTD powered Dodges as of now are built in Mexico. This may change next year from what I understand.

Well, I had a Ford F350 2001, PSD. Three pages of warranty repairs, left me stranded, etc, all in 35,000 miles. My Ford was built in Kentucky, but some of the Super Duties are built in Mexico.

Launch shudder? I have a little, doesn't bother me. "Clunking" over bumps? Every truck I've owned (this is my third Dodge, and my Ford) has done this.

It's a one-ton truck! It's your money, and while I really liked my Ford, it was NOT reliable - and that was the 7. 3 engine. I wouldn't even CONSIDER the 6. 0. Good luck.

BillUA,

Wow, bad news on the 05. I just left a post over in No Eng/Trans on the frame issue, mentioning that I had driven an 05 Ford - and based on my vibe issues and the frame issues am highly considering a Ford [My wife has an 05 250 with 4Doors and all the bells] I have towed across the mountains with it [my 24' GN Cattle hauler, while my Dge was in the shop for the vibe stuff. I like the 6. 0 and the Torqshift, they work well together.

When I go to cattle shows, 90%+ of the trucks there are Fords, from late 80's on up, and these trucks get worked, and some look like it, but they are still pulling the 8-12K trailers around.

To be fair, about 8% of the remaining are 2nd Gen Dodges, Cummins with sticks. . Chevy and the new dodges are about non existent... .

Go with the Ford, expect oil leaks, but strong frames and vibe free rides up to 100mph...

Good luck with your new ford diesel, you will need it. Make sure you look at the window sticker where it states what percentage of your new ford truck was made in the USA,you might be suprised. coobie :-laf

Yes, my Chevy made it all the way back to the dealer to pick up my Lemon buy-back check  Each brand has good/bad features, and I've seen it mentioned many times on this site that if you could meld all the good ideas into one truck it would be a winner for sure. I'm not brand loyal anymore since I've gotten hosed by so many manufacturers, both domestic and foreign. They ALL manage to build some crap. You should take what you feel is your best gamble, 'cause that's precisely what it is, a gamble.

that's a bit harsh i mean no matter which brand of new vehicle a guy was to choose there will be ones that come out of the factory not as good or possibly better then the one right behind it. I'm all about buying in the usa, isn't that deal part of nafta which old william clinton passed in the 90's to outsource american work. When was the first record of our trucks being built in mexico. (or at least a good portion of our trucks). i can't see an assembly line in mexico having that many more issues than an assembly line here really.

Shake rattle and bolts

Hey Bill,

You only have 107 miles on your new Dodge. It will take at least 500 miles to shake all the spare bolts, clips, stripped wire and stuff out of the crooks and crannys that were dropped at the factory before your truck settles down and will then be the best truck you can buy.

Moolie, don't think it is harsh to spend 42k and expect a truck that a vehicle that doesn't have issues... True, Clinton signed NAFTA, it It was started under BUSH SR. I do not want to get into a whoha over that... I do not consider myself a D or R...

Anyway, Totally bummed about this...

Dieselminded: : You really have almost 100,000 posts? :--) Cool. My last truck performance wise was a beast. This '05 has tons more grunt stock out of the box than my 2nd gen... . My disappointment is only with the 2 issues that I mentioned, But as I stated spending these bucks, I shouldn't have these issues.

Cumminz We'll see, I hada night to sleep on it... I'll talk to dealer today to decide on which way to go...

Thanks, Bill

Seeing his posts in the frame issues thread I personally think he was against the truck before he got it. He already had skepticism and naturally was going to be very particular when he picked up his truck. I would have done the same.

I agree with what some have said... go to the lot and drive another. It's either one of 2 things... #1) you indeed did get a bad truck #2) the truck is alright and you're the problem.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but it seems like more than just a coincidence to me. All of the big 3 have issues. . and sure, many of us are brand loyal (or even just cummins loyal). But I'm sorry... these trucks are not junk and as many of us here who are very happy with ours that says something. PLUS for the thousands of folks out there who are not members here... and they are happy as well. That says something.

XJSUPERMAN... I was NOT predisposed to not liking this truck. . I made honest evaluations as a consumer on all 3 before buying this one. I have been a Dodge and Mopar man my the last 39 years. Think I was biased against this truck from the start??? Think anything you want, I don't care... Fact, this truck has shudder launch, clunking that sounds like a ladder or something is in a bed when I go over a moderate bump...

Maybe people that pay 45K for a brand new truck and are content to put up with these issues are the problem... It lets the corporations feel like they can get away with this stuff...

Have a nice day!

Bill
