The '05 we ordered back in August, came in this week and we just picked up the truck last night, only have 32 miles on it and can't wait to take it for a much longer drive today. Fit and finish seem to be excellent, brakes are unbelievable and the entire truck feels very solid and tight.

This is the first vehicle I have ever owned with leather seats and we ordered them with the heat option, very cool! (no pun intended). I'll update my impressions after I spend some time this weekend with the '05.

Congratulations! We got the leather, too, for the heated seats. Haven't had to use them yet. Looking forward to hearing about your new ride.

Jim

P. S. Just noticed your sig. I think, based on another recent thread, that it should now read 325/610.

Jim,

What kind of boost and EGT #'s are you showing? Yeah, I read the post about the 610 lbs of torque also, but have not seen it on any DCX literature as of yet.

Two annoyances noted during driving of the truck for about 100 miles yesterday:

#1 - Diesel crankcase fumes (breather tube?) in the cab, when stopped and ideling.

#2 - Sometimes it will not go into P (park), yeah, I can move the lever into that position, but it does not go in, sometimes have to try it 3-4 times before the light/ring around the P lights up to show your in.

The 1st time this happened, we were at a parking lot and the truck would not start... ... because the truck wasn't in P, moved it down to N and it fired right up. Off to the dealer we go next week... ... ...

Other than that, the truck runs/drives great and is very comfortable.

Shifting to park

You might try pulling the shift lever back to get in park. I had this trouble when new. It has improved since then. Slow down as these do not select as fast as the older models. These trucks are very " tight" when new, so give them a chance to loosen up. Lots of computerized items on these new trucks.

Congratulations! Hopefully they hurry up and make mine (ordered late Aug. ), I'm going to go crazy with the waiting, then again it's definitely worth waiting for...

So I'm prepared when I finally get mine, is there a fix for the crankcase fumes in the cab issue, or is that just something that is how it is and there's no getting around it?

:)

TSpecht,

You will love your new truck when it gets in. I also had the oil smell at first but after the first oil change it went away. I was told by the service manager at my Dodge dealer here that "special" breaking in oil is put into these new engines preliminarly. The source of this information is questionable. It takes a long time for these rings on these engines to seat. After about 500 miles I put my 26' 5ver on the back and took it to the mountains for a "workout". Wow! what a difference this new baby as compared to the old "93" first generation we had.

These are quite the trucks.

Any chance you could do me a favor and take a close-up picture of the label on the side of the motor that shows 610 torque. I git some disbelievers i want to straighten out.

Thanks

I had the same oil smell the first couple of weeks I had my 4. 5. It was delivered in May. Noticed it primarily when I was stopped at a light. After a month it went away or I don't notice it anymore either way the smell is gone. The shift lever is a little touchy and I frequently notice that the gear indicator light is not on and now look to make sure I move the lever till the light is on.

The truck was incredibly tight the first thousand miles or so. I've got 9000 miles on it now and it drives a lot smoother. Even the leather seats seem to have loosened up a little.

Mileage sucks. My overall average is about 13. Still better than the 10 I got with my 97 V-10 and fuel is a few cents cheaper. Steering and brakes are the best part of the truck. I hated the steering on my 97 which I put 130,000 miles on.

Nothing on my valve cover that says 600 or 610. . I have the sales booklet for 2005 and it says 600 in it. As for my mileage, Im getting about 13. 5 but I only have 432 miles so far. As for the oil smell, my 04 had it and it always was the worst just after an oil change. I still smell it in my new one. Oh well, I hope the mileage gets better as I start to rack on a few miles. Ive only owned it less than 2 weeks but its been sitting on the driveway for the past 4 days. Just had foot sugery and havent felt like driving anywhere. :{ :(

CONGRATS! on the new truck- long may she run!

In regards to the oil stink issue, I don't know if this will be true with the new engine but with my 'ol '92 there was the same stink whenever I used Shell rotella T oil, and to a lesser degree the premium blue. I have never had any stink with Mobil Delvac. That is what I will put in, They have a great deal on it at Costco too.

Another factor regarding this is the fact that we now have a clutching fan that may not move air while at a light. This causes fumes to waft from underneath and into the vents and windows. I read this in a recent TDR issue, and it makes sense.

Ya mine stinks too. What really stinks that its sitting in the dealers shop waiting for a new injector. My 01 was never in there, period.

I only saw the HP listed and not the torque on the valve cover tag. I will give it a better inspection and report back, but I don't think the torque was listed on the tag.

If you put the fan on recirculate you wont smell the fumes at stops...

The fumes are coming in through the firewall where the rubber plugs were left out. that was part of the cost saving deal when D/C also omitted the body plugs on both sides of the cab under the doors and covered them with masking tape! That is a real joke. Everyone that is new here and didnt see all the whoop about this last year when the 04's came out and the plugs were not on the trucks, as they were on the 03"s. . Then, we must not forget the other cost saving detail of no inner fender wells in the rear of all 3rd gen trucks. My new 600 has them because I paid the $100+ to have them installed. #@$%!

The fumes that come through ths A/C and defroster are the same as you are getting through the missing plugs. They are just a bit stronger as the fan is blowing them in your face. One possible cure is having the dealer install a longer vent tube hose on your truck as they did on my 04. It shoved about 75% of the fumes to the rear of the cab. It just depends on how much hose they are willing to part with for this very easy fix on your truck. :-laf :--)

Congrats on the new rig but you're making me a little jealous. Especially since you said you ordered in August and I ordered on the 18th of JUNE and mine is still in storage, still hasn't found it's way to the railcar. As a matter of fact, Mine was probably built and in storage (Aug 10th) before you even ordered! Hope you are enjoying the new ride, becuase I am definately envious.

Nope. Nothing too special. They must not have had any problems building it becuase if I recall correctly from one of your previous posts, mine went from build status to storage status the same day you ordered yours, Aug 10th.
