Hey everyone. I just bought an 05 3500 regular cab drw, which I'll be towing 15k lbs. with regularly. My last truck had the nv5600. The new one has the 48re, because it was set up the way I wanted it w/ a dump body right off the lot. My question is, in which order should I go about upgrading the transmission in order to accomodate the heavy loads that I am pulling, and future- fairly mild- engine mods that I will most likely consider in order to help it tow cooler.

I know very little about the 48re, but was thinking that the torque converter & valve body would be 2 good places to start. I am not interested in particular brands at this time, just general upgrade advice w/ heavy towing in mind, especially the order in which the transmission upgrades should be performed.

Thanks in advance.

Ben

Your right on track with the valve body and torque converter. While your at it I would replace your input shaft as well while your transmission is open. I'm wishing that I would have done the input shaft right away cause it's costing me a pretty penny now that it's broke. If I would have done the input shaft right away I could have spent the money that I'm paying to fix it and buy a new turbo and other goodies for my truck.

Thanks for steering me toward the input shaft, hadn't thought of it. How important is a transmission 'controller' if I install an exhaust brake?
