I had been toying with the idea of a new truck but I wanted to wait until I had anther 75,000 on the 01. After reading Steve's article about the 07 emission compliant engines I was really disgusted at what I saw coming. So after a LOT of labored thought, I have a shiny Patriot Blue 06 in the driveway. We'll see if it was the right thing to do.

Comments: Overall very nice truck. Engine is remarkably smooth and quiet. Excellent power for stock. I'll eventually get to bombing but I think that might be a while. Opening up the intake and exhaust is all that is really needed now. Engine compartment is nice a clean. No TPS on the engine any more (good/bad??). 48re is an improvement, but will still get the DTT treatment in the future. Torque convertor stinks as expected. I really like the way the tow/haul mode shifts thought. I like the 01 interior better, for now at least. The wood grain panels have got to go. Tires and suspension stink, but so does every other vehicle on the road when you are used to KORE. Extra room in back is a weclome addition.

Questions: How do those wood grain panels come off?

I usually drive in Tow/Haul but would also like to lockout overdrive IN tow/haul. The double tap button the the shifter gives your either tow/haul or O/D lockout. I want both. I was thinking that finding the O/D wire in the shifter and attaching to a separate toggle on the dash???

I feel that 10 micron fuel filtration in inadequate (for any newer diesel). I had originally thought of just putting on a FASS, but got to thinking about adding a 2 micron Stanadyne unit (FM100 or 1000) between the stock filter and cp3. I figured you'd need a stronger pump and then noticed the Stanadyne unit has an option of a pump built in to the filter, but it's only availble on the smaller FM100. What do you think???

Thanks in advance.

Long live the great 5. 9 :D

The wood grain panel is actually a very thin coating over the plastic. Basically that whole center dash down to the lighted floor area is one piece. With the Auto and electric 4wd,and bucket seats, pull up on the whole cup holder area, it snaps out of the plastic screwed into the floor. Then remove the floor piece by removing 3? screws. Then pull out the plastic shroud in the bottom of the the center dash to reveal the only 2 screws that hold the center dash in. After that its all clips.
